souvenir shopping on Alaska cruises

We just completed our 3rd Inside Passage Alaskan cruise (07..09..2013)..it will not be our last!...If you plan on souvenirs..if you can wait until you get to Ketchikan...I suggest this......shop at Tongass Trading Company..they have 3 stores..all right at the cruise piers...merchandise from "bargains" to nice stuff...BUT HERE IS THE BEST PART....they will ship all that you buy at all of their stores..(they combine all purchases) for $19.99!!!! No matter the quantity...(1 box,,2 boxes..3 boxes..and so on...all for $19.99..USPS Priority..........We have done this on all of our Alaskan cruises.@ Tongass Trading...no worry of overstuffed luggage..wt limits...etc......we were there on July 25..and our stuff arrived home in Louisiana..Aug 3!!!! I realize that other merchants "ship"...but may be limited in what you ship..and they don't have 3 stores to peruse...also upstairs in the main store ..is their "Outfiitter" section for the campers, etc..nice stuff...............we have never been disappointed (and I get no deals from them for liking their store!)

I love browsing the aisles at the Tongass dock store, it used to be much better when it was a real hardward store. Love the upstairs area with the "real" outdoor clothing etc. Be sure and check out the old photos on the rear staircase for a great history of the Tongass store and Ketchican

One of my best cruise memories was sailing on the old Island Princess and bumping into our Captain in the Tongass store, he was looking at a display of inflatable rafts. When I said that if I saw him boarding with one I wouldn't feel safe and wouldn't be sailing back with him. He almost fell down laughing. For the rest of the cruise every time I saw him I'd shake my finger at him and he'd have a big smile.
