cozzello Posted August 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2013 I know I need a later flight home from London because we are traveling from Harwich but, how late does it need to be? RC is suggesting 2pm and I am wondering how accurate that is? I am also shopping for flights from Chicago to London and back on 6/15/14 and returning 7/1/14? I am not too particular about the airline but would like non-stop or only one stop. I just wonder if the current price is one I should grab...$1450.00. We are on RC Brilliance departing from Harwich on 6/19/14. Thanks for the input. Cheryl
CruiserBruce Posted August 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2013 A little reading on this board would reveal buying when the fares first come out is NOT recommended, unless you are going for free, award tickets. Better to watch prices for a while, and look for some trends to develop. Right now I am seeing as low as $1285 (Aer Lingus) and $1380 (United). greatam Posted August 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2013 If the timing is right, I would be jumping all over that AerLingus fare. I truly don't believe it will go much lower than that for PRIME London flights. Next year, 4th of July is on Friday and I have already had employees ask for the prior week off because they will get their normal vacation plus holiday pay so a little pay bonus. That Monday will be VERY slow for a lot of businesses (everyone recovering from the long weekend) so I foresee some of my employees taking Monday off in lieu of holiday pay. It makes almost a 2 week vacation with just a week off work. I will bet flights to Europe are going to fill up rather fast. JMHO
jsmeeker Posted August 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2013 Based on earlier, casual, random searches for the peak Summer 2012 time frame showed that $1400ish isn't too out of line. Sure, it could go a little lower. And it might not go any higher for some time. But don't expect it to go way down. IMHO, anything in the $1200 ball park is "fair", especially if you want non-stop ORD-LHR-ORD on AA, BA, or UA That said, I don't think you really need to jump on that fare right now. You didn't happen to mention the routing. Was that for a non-stop?
LetsGoDutch Posted August 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2013 we were on the Eclipse out of Southampton. Celebrity advised booking flights from 12:30 pm onwards. we booked a flight for 3 pm OMG...LHR is such a bore ! they don't show the gate number until 45 mins prior to departure. they don't have departure gate lounges you have to wait in a compact area just outside the duty-free where everyone is sitting and waiting for their gate number. There was a flight shortly after 12 pm we could've taken.
