CanadacruiseRN Posted August 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2013 My clutzy DH fell down our basement stairs and broke his ankle on Monday. We are booked on the Baltic/TA leaving Copenhagen August 30 and didn't know what to do......He is unable to weight bear so we will need a wheel chair. My TA called Princess and it would be $1600.00 extra for an accessible cabin. We decided to just try to cope with our regular BH balcony and make the best of it. A few minutes later our wonderful TA called back to tell us she had contacted customer services and Princess found us an accessible cabin on Aloha deck for no extra charge. We are so thankful and happy that we will have the extra room for the wheel chair, a shower that my DH can actually use, and space for him to get around on his crutches, for our 27 days on the ship. A big heartfelt thanks to Princess for this great upgrade! Looking forward to an awesome cruise on the beautiful Emerald Princess. Laurel

Rare Coral Posted August 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Princess should be accomodating to this! I know it is frustrating for many who need a wheel chair cabin that when they go to book a cabin, only have a few choices and must pay the cost for whatever cabin is available. For example, someone who wants (or can only afford) an inside cabin often has to get a balcony as that is the only accessible cabin available. Glad it worked out for you! CanadacruiseRN Posted August 9, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted August 9, 2013 I just really enjoy CruiseCritic. When Princess made our day we got the icing on our happy cake in the form of good wishes and kind words from all you folks. Cdngrl! Great to hear from you. The fall story is already so pathetic you wouldn't believe it! He was carrying a basket of laundry down and I had put a blanket on the stairs to go up and this recipe caused a disaster....no Merlot involved! He is taking it well and is prepared to be pushed around by me in order to see and do as much as we can. He is a real trooper! We always have fun so that will not change just cause he is little immobile. He gets out of dancing, which is one positive outcome of the whole mess (for him, anyway!). I guess since your the driver you will be able to see all the sights you want too. :D;) You probably don't remember me we were on the Sea Princess: Fall Foliage Canada/New England 10 days. Oct. 2008 with you.

las313 Posted August 9, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Sorry about the fall. But great of Princess to come thru. A thought - to save you pushing him, would it be helpful to rent an electric skooter for the cruise? Much easier on you and great for him to get around. L When I broke my ankle a few years ago at the third week I was put into a walking cast and the big black boot. This alleviated the need for both a wheelchair (which I never used) or crutches, which I found hard to use. Perhaps he can get the same thing, which would make ambulation much easier for both of you. I think that is a great idea and is so much easier than the chair, the problem may be with the bearing his weight issue. I am not sure how much the boot spreads the stress/takes the weight.:D
