Parklandk Posted August 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Does PG ever offer upgrades if a cruise date is not sold out? Like from a window to balcony room? If so, what is a fair $ amount to upgrade?
Wendy The Wanderer Posted August 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Not sure if PG Cruises does it, but Regent did it sometimes in the past when they ran the ship. We upgraded from an E to a balcony GTY for $1000 pp, which we thought was a great deal, especially when we were assigned a B cabin on deck 8! That was over 4 years ago. Benita Posted August 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2013 We went from a porthole to a balcony for $1000 for our 14 night cruise. The ship was a quarter empty, so I stopped by the reception desk and made an offer. They wanted $1000 a person, but emailed Seattle and they accepted our offer. It was $2500 to upgrade to a level B suite. We passed on that one.
twin123185 Posted August 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Keep the window and spend the $$$ on other things!! Next time book a porthole and save more $$$. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Silver Sweethearts Posted August 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Speaking of $$$, what does anyone see (seriously) as reasons to book a Grand or Owner's Suite?
Tikiintahiti Posted August 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Yes they will offer upgrades if not filled/ your best beat is to contact PG 2 weeks prior to boarding and see what is available. The price of the upgrade will be dictated by how full they are, if your a returnee & a bit of luck. The bottom line is there isn't a bad room on the ship so no matter where you end up you will have a nice room and a wonderful time.
twin123185 Posted August 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I have mentioned this numerous times in various threads. 3 PG cruises on deck 3 in a porthole = 2 on a deck 6 balcony. The really expensive cabins are great if a dollar to you is like 1000 to me! If money is no object go for it! You eat the same food as me. Does anyone really need a butler? Silver Sweethearts Posted August 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 12, 2013 All we are curious about is what amenities make a Grand or Owner's Suite worth the fare that is being asked?
K2DangerGirl Posted August 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 12, 2013 We booked a window cabin guarantee, as that was all that was available at the time we booked. I tried not to let myself think about it but we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a balcony cabin on deck 6. We did not have a room assignment until we arrived at the dock and when DH came back with the cabin number to write on our luggage tags it was all I could do to keep myself from jumping up and down in front of everyone we were waiting in line with. :-)
Cruisedreamer1 Posted August 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I visited the owners suite and found while large and consisting of 2 rooms. However, the bedroom did not have a window!!!! Actually, if money was no problem I would book the cabin that is just below the owner's suite. It was basically a large room with a huge wall to wall sliding window. Just being on the PG is wonderful, the cabin is irreverent. Relax, just go and enjoy the service and cuisine.
ALB0711 Posted August 12, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I didn't look in the owners suite, but as I recall (and I may be wrong), it is all the way forward on deck 7 and if that is true you might feel more movement there. I'm a big fan of a balcony cabin, while you pay a lot more and do indeed eat the same food, being able to open the window at night and escape the ships air conditioning is important to us. merryecho Posted August 19, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Just back. Asked on check in if there were any b level cabins available for upgrade. Told there were, but at full brochure rate. Decided level c was fine.
Adidas4fun Posted August 19, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Cant answer the difference from balcony port hole blah blah - just booked a grand suite and I really dont know what you might have different. But we had a forward facing deck with sun loungers that was fully private, nespresso machine, the mini bar was supplemented with 1.125 litre bottles of gin and whisky, a lounge area for 5+ people which we did use to entertain. Our butler sorted many things for us on just the slightest mention. Oh and as to the comment about the owners cabin bedroom not having a window that would be 702 because 701s bedroom does have a window
Tiki_Man Posted August 19, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Just got a note from our TA that we could move from a D Balcony to a B Balcony for $1600. Just not worth it to us. While a Butler would be nice and the balcony may be a bit bigger I would rather try to spend any extra on airfare upgrade or buy my lovely bride some new pearls. Now if they want to give us the upgrade for free then of course we would be happy to check it out. Mark
twin123185 Posted August 19, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I was fortunate to get an upgrade from cat F porthole to cat D balcony next month but I am on two cruises back to back. I am booked next year but I am certain I won't get a free upgrade for one cruise! Still not even sure if I will like the balcony cabin better. I like getting to my porthole cabin before anyone even gets on the elevator. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Emdee Posted August 20, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Great news Twin. I am sure you will enjoy the D. I have to admit after trying out the D one year I went back to the E. The big advantage of the Balcony cabins is more natural light. B is a bigger cabin, bigger balcony and good location by the pool as well.

Looked at the smaller ones for a future cruise, and for us, they were just a bit too small. Very attractive. We booked an A for next year........with the OB booking and past passenger discount it was about the same as the B. Love that ship!
Emdee Posted August 20, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Merriem , you will be on our Repeaters cruise .. correct. Looking forward to it. Full year to wait from now! Most of the Bs were sold out already.... I think Repeaters cruise booking is still quite brisk.
