Dominican Republic

The Odd Couple

Recommended Posts

Last time we were in Dom. Republic, we stayed on the ship. WE like stops at Santo Domingo and wish the ships still went there at least now and then. We have always liked that port.

I couldn't see any threads on the ports of call boards for Samana so found a website with tourist info. It was touting their "new Malecon" as the place to be in town. Has anybody been to Dom Rep recently, please? Is the Malecon worth a look??

We were there a couple of years ago and we did a tour -- can't remember which one.

Sure would like more information as well.

We were in Samana in Jan/13. The Malecon is pretty much the same as any other one we've experienced. We walked it as far as we could, given the heat and humidity. Lots of vendors. Some pushy, some not. LOTS of street dogs. LOTS. If you are an animal lover, be prepared :(

A number of people did a bus tour that gave an overview of the area, specifically the rain forest or jungle ???? and gave it good reviews.

We now support some merchants in Samana through kiva.org -- we could NOT get any contact info for animal rescue there, so hope that with an increased standard of living for some local people, animal welfare may become benefit to some degree.

We very much enjoyed our stop in Samana in Oct 2012. Booked a tour with Tour Samana with Terry. The visit to Playa el Valle was fantastic. The town is poor and not developed much, but probably safe. The scenery cruising the bay is also very beautiful.

I agree with Terry's Tours, he has several to offer and they are top notch!

What made his tours so good?

Maybe if we return, we might look into touring with Terry.

Don't know when we will return there, but I will check Terry out.
