oceanpark Posted August 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Loved the Solstice (NewZealand) and am thinking of Asia in 2015 on Century, but am worried that I will be disappointed in the ship. Sailed Mercury years ago when it was looking rather neglected and don't want the same experience on Century.
neverbeenhere Posted August 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2013 We loved the Mercury. We still love the Century. Not quite to Solstice standards, but very great. Hey, they are putting new carpets in this February. If you really sweat the small stuff, don't travel on the Century - otherwise Enjoy a great Asia cruise. Phxazzcruisers Posted August 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Just know the Century is not like th S Class ships. We love her, she was our first, and the crew and food are great, she just does not have all of the bells and whistles that e S Class ships have
illiniwahoo Posted August 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2013 We first sailed the Equinox, then sailed the Summit. We were disappointed int he Summit. I liked the neat touches on the Equinox like the lawn and the glass blowing show. There just didn't seem to be as much to do on the Summit. But at the same token, we could have sailed a Solstice class ship for about $300pp more. Since that about covers the beverage package, I'm not sure which I would chose to do again. In a port intensive cruise, I don't think it would matter as much. But if you go in with lower expectations you should be fine.
A Sixth? Posted August 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Loved the Solstice (NewZealand) and am thinking of Asia in 2015 on Century, but am worried that I will be disappointed in the ship. Sailed Mercury years ago when it was looking rather neglected and don't want the same experience on Century. My take for you is don't do it. I love the Century, M class and really love the S class... but if the smaller older ships don't ring the bell for you, and there are other choices...... Can I have your ticket on the Century because I personally love that ship...

Both of you guys really should have booked the Feb 15th Century cruise when you had the chance (yes, I know -- little things like work get in the way ;)). oceanpark Posted August 11, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted August 11, 2013 I was on the Mercury three times and it was the last time that the ship felt and look neglected. I don't have a problem with a smaller ship, nor do I need "bells and whistles". I am hoping that the food and staff on Century will be as great as it was on the Solstice. It will be interesting to see what actually is done during a drydock in the first part of 2014. If they change all the bedding and do rooms etc. I would say go for it. If not you may find it like your Merc experience. Personally I love the ship but she needs that work for me to spend more time onboard compared to the M class. I do not need the bells and whistles either but the rooms need work. Not that the ships is a mess or anything... don't me wrong X does not let things get beyond a certain point ever but it's getting there. I'm saying lets wait and see. I say that having also been on the S class ....Which I think is rather large.
Issyalex Posted August 11, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2013 I have sailed on Century twice, Millennium once, Eclipse three times and Constellation once. I love them all for different reasons. yes the S class has shinny chrome and Century is more traditional. if you do not like older smaller ships then do not book but if this is the itinerary that you really want to do then book it and enjoy the Century for what it is........a great friendly smaller ship. We're gonna miss you! :( So I'm pretty sure we are going to do one of those Pacific Coastals in March or April. Just a matter of determining which date. oceanpark Posted August 13, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted August 13, 2013 I have decided the itinerary on the Millennium is more to our liking and I know I won't have any concerns with that ship.
Sascol Posted August 13, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2013 My two cents - we've done all three classes of ships. Most recently the Constellation after having done The Eclipse and the Silhouette. While we found no big 'issues' with the Constellation after the Solsticising it went through last year, we did find that in comparison it was not as 'up to par' for lack of a better term when compared to the newer ships. I know opinions vary but I posted a short review after our return. Check it out if you think you would sind it to be helpful. Not comparing the same ships but still a good comparison of newer vs. older classes. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1727528
oceanpark Posted August 14, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Your review was helpful. As Princess has a similar itinerary i am now considering Sapphire Princess for our Asian cruise.
vermonter16 Posted August 14, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Haven't been on Century but I have been on the Solstice and Millie. DH and I looooove the Solstice and we loved Millie. But - given the choice - we'd pick Solstice. With that being said - we wouldn't hesitate to go on an M Class if the itinerary is right. I think a lot depends on staff and attitude, etc.
Montreal Marc Posted August 14, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Century was my first of 20 on Celeb, and I still have great feelings for her. Did a Vancouver out and return on her last year, and she brought back great memories. I would have no qualms at all sailing on Century again. She's a beauty! C 2 C Posted August 14, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 14, 2013 I have decided the itinerary on the Millennium is more to our liking and I know I won't have any concerns with that ship. Millennium is a great ship but it is the only Celebrity ship having issues this year. Having sailed all classes frequently, my choice will always be Century. Love the size, the layout, the comfort more.. Life is tough when one has to pick from so many great choices.. Enjoy your cruise.
phoenix_dream Posted August 14, 2013 #19 Share Posted August 14, 2013 It really depends on what you are looking for on a ship. For me, I primarily want to relax. I want good food, a little music before dinner, a casino to try out, a little entertainment after dinner, and great service to go along with it. I enjoyed S class (going on one next) but I would choose itinerary over class of ship in a heartbeat. If you need more entertainment and get turned on by bells and whistles, perhaps Century is not right for you. Only you can really decide. I have been on 23 cruises with Celebrity - my last cruise on Century (right before another dry dock when she was not looking her best) was definitely one of my all-time favorites. Str8asitgets2 Posted August 14, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Its strange how things change in life!....My favorite ship to this day was the Zenith, it just had such a classiness to it that is lacking in the larger ships....Miss you Zenith :(

vjh Posted August 15, 2013 #22 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Century was my first ship as well, have cruised her 3 times and I am looking forward to sailing her again on her 24 day Transpacific in Sept 2014. It will be nice to be on a Celebrity cruise of this length without doing B2B. She has an understated elegance about her, and I have always found the crew to be exceptional.
