carhirer Posted August 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Just returned from a 12 day Canaries cruise on Ventura. Thank you all for your help and advice. We had a very good cruise. I recognised all the complaints, particularly about the Waterside buffet - limited choice of food, of "acceptable" quality, crowds and disengaged staff. In fact, that hit us as an initial disappointment when we went to the buffet immediately on embarcation. We felt like we had booked a mid-scale all-inclusive holiday. But with 12 days ahead we switched onto positive mode and had a very good time. Just need to use a bit of common sense in avoiding the crowds. With a bit of ducking n diving we usually managed to secure our favourite table by the kiddies pool for "al fresco" breakfast and lunches. Don't think I'll add a review as everything has been said. Excellent - Dinners in dining room - "Headliners" shows Very good - cabin (balcony) - Afternoon tea - breakfast in Waterside buffet (just get there at breakfast time, ie before 9 am) - bar drinks and prices Acceptable - lunches in Waterside buffet - staff who were helpful enough but look depressed and were clearly rushed. This was particularly noticeable at afternoon tea in the dining room - crowds. This was during school holidays so crowds are to be expected. Plenty of sunbeds available away from pool areas (much more civilised anyway).
