Did you Ever sail on "the Love Boat" ?

I sailed on her in 2002 during her final season, to Bermuda. (And on her twin sister, on a Med cruise in the 90s.) I loved both those ships and I guess I disagree with you about either looking "tired." As in, maybe it/they did; maybe not -- I was having too much fun to even notice. Both cruises rank in my top 3 list of best I've taken. They were the perfect size ship, with fantastic crews, with great public spaces -- remember the two-story aft lounge? And the big aft sun deck with its own little pool? And the forward observatory/lounge? The make-shift "buffet" at lunchtime on the pool deck? The wonderful surprise of open deck space every . . .

I'd trade an Alfredo's, MUTS, and two "piazzas" to have one of those ships sailing with Princess again.

I sailed with her to Bermuda the same year you did, and I agree with everything you said. I loved the smaller ships, and there was something special about sailing on THE LOVE BOAT herself.

I sailed on the Pacific Princess from Ensenada to Honolulu in 1992 on a 5 day repositioning cruise. Another recent thread about the Pacific Princess had photos 'then & now' which helped to refresh my memory about the ship's layout & to see how much she's deteriorated since then.

Hi,

I also cruised aboard the Pacific Princess to Bermuda during her final year with Princess (my cruise was in May 2002). I absolutely loved this ship. :) This was a very elegant and well-designed ship with many wonderful features (the two-story lobby with the curved staircase, the Lido Pool with the sliding glass roof, etc.). Yes, I remember the aft lounge with its two story wall of glass.

This was an interesting itinerary because the ship actually visited all three ports in Bermuda.

I was a big fan of the television series (watched it every week) and was not disappointed with the actual ship. I am very glad that I was able to experience the orginal Pacific Princess. This certainly was a very special ship.

Do you remember when they had the movies on TV when she would sail further, than an hour's episode?

I was maybe 8 at the time and would have to watch it with my cousins when they visited. All I wanted was the Dukes of Hazzard. Little did I know many years later I would still love cars, and have a new love for cruising.:)

I had the great pleasure of working on Pacific Princess and her sister, Island Princess and the original Sun Princess from 1974 through 1978 as a musician. I played Fender Bass in some groups and piano in others. We played for dancing and backed the shows in the Carousel Lounge and the Caribe Lounge and also the Starlight Lounge up top.

I had never been on a ship before and it was love at first sight. I still cruise Princess to this day. I love most of the innovations over the years, but there was nothing like those early years when the ships were still Norwegian-flagged.

One of my favorite memories was the cruise that we had Les Brown and his "Band of Renown" onboard and his band and ours alternated sets in the Carousel Lounge. They were all great musicians; it was like a master class at sea for us--we learned so much from those guys.

The recent postings about the sad demise of “Pacific Princess” bring back so many happy memories. We sailed on her three times, firstly in 1988 to the Black Sea and then next 10 years later in 1998 to the Middle East, Jersualem, Egypt etc.

Our final cruise on her was to Bermuda in 2000 and I agree with another posting on this thread that it was exciting as the ship docked at the 3 separate ports in Bermuda, St George’s, Hamilton and the Naval Dockyard. It was particularly exciting to be able to just stroll off the ship in Hamilton and be in the “High Street” straight away.

It is also a special ship to us as we made two sets of friends on her, one pair like us from the UK in 1998 and then from San Diego in 2000 – our American friends have visited us several time since and we go to them next year.

We did love the ship and although we found balconies the following year on the original “Crown Princess” (sailing with our friends from San Diego) and would not want to go back to a ship without them the happy memories keep flooding back.

In fact I have made a couple of visits in recent years to look over “Discovery”, formerly the “Island Princess”, the other “Love Boat”. She really is identical so it was just like revisiting our much loved “Pacific Princess”

Kind regards to all.

Leaving from San Pedro. We had friends come aboard before we sailed. I fondly remember the Love Boat theme being played and throwing streamers shoreside as the ship moved away from the pier. Everything was exciting and wonderful. Nowadays CC is filled with all of the Royal negatives. Life was much simpler then.

It was my first Princess cruise back in 1983. Did the 7 day sailing from California to Acapulco. The cabin was so tiny with bunk beds, but we didn't care. Was a thrill to be on the ship which seemed so big then. Sad to see it come to an end.

We have fond memories of the cruises we had on the "love boat". This was our introduction to cruising, way back in the early '80's. The last time we sailed on her was during her last year with Princess when we had a third wonderful cruise on her to Bermuda.

We were on her in 1996, in the Med. It left from Venice, and ended in Barcelona. We saw a HUGE whale on one of the sea days. She was old, but I still loved her!! By coincidence, I met a guy and his wife who taught in the same school district. I still run into him at dog shows, where he volunteers!

I guess they refurbished her after 1985 as I said in 85 she was very tired looking. The food and service were great, yes the cabins were small nothing like in the TV show, but this was not our first cruise so we knew what to expect, our first cruise was in 1970 on the Bahama Star. we are taking our 27th cruise at Christmas.:) Taking our daughter and grand kids. Yeah no dragging out the decorations this year!:D

In 1986 I took a South Pacific cruise on her out and back to Sydney. A very nice cruise especially as it allowed me to visit the area my B-25 pilot uncle was killed during the war. Funny, but my memory of the ship itself had largely faded, so I took out my DVD of the trip a while back. Surely has been a big change in cruise ships over the last 27 years.

Oh yes, those were the days. It was the late '80s and We sailed to Mexico. I was with my mom and we threw serpentine at sail away. That was the first (and only) time I stayed in an inside cabin. But it was probably one of my fondest memories!

I never sailed on Pacific Princess, but I was aboard in the late 70's when my parents took a cruise out of Los Angeles. Back then, we were allowed aboard at embarkation and took a look at their cabin (tiny!) and walked around the ship. And then it was "all ashore that's going ashore" and we later watched the ship sail away.
