Our hotel is far from the port area.Best Western Oakland Park. We thought it might be nice go late afternoon. Do some tourist shopping go to happy hour and walk to see the ships sail out. Is this a good area to hang out for a afternoon.whats the difference between the two streets ? Kelleys landing sounds likes nice place for dinner, so does Duffys .

Any opinions.

Kelly's Landing is a solid seafood restaurant. We stay across the street at the ES and always have a meal at Kelly's. Not fancy-but good food. Looking forward to it on the next cruise in November. Just asking, why staying so far away? There are plenty of reasonable priced hotels in the 17th street area.

Traffic where you will be gets pretty heavy at about 4:00 PM so don't wait too late.

17th Street is an 8 lane divided highway with heavy traffic going 45-60 mph. It's not a good place to stroll or hangout. If you want to shop then you drive to the mall you want, park and go in the store. About the only place to see the ships go out would be from the middle of the 17th Street bridge. You could park underneath the bridge for $1 an hour, hike underneath the bridge to the south side around to the walkway and then across to the middle of the bridge. Great view if the weather is good.

Las Olas is a narrow downtown street with lots of shops and sidewalk dining. This is a place you would stroll.

We are staying there in March 2014. I reserved 9 rooms and no one wanted to pay more than 140.00 that was not easy for me to find during March lol so that's the best I could come up with. So just plan on doing a day trip Los Olas sounds nice. They arrive evening of 15 and we sail on the 17. So really only one day to play

Kelly's and Duffy's are sports bars/restaurants off SE 17th St. If that is what you are attracted to, you might not like Las Olas at all. There are quite a few moderately priced restaurants (Cheesecake Factory, Mangos, Noodles Panini, Big City, Royal Pig, etc.) but the stores are expensive and the crowd is more upscale/trendy, going out to see and be seen on the scene. I really don't know why you'd bother going to SE 17th St for Duffy's when you have Ale House a block away, as it's the same concept, but I understand if you want to go to the bridge. Duffy's has 2 for 1 happy hour all day, but you might need to get the free MVP card to get that.

By the way, if any of your friends want to get their nails done, Nail Mark in Coral Ridge Mall is only 2 blocks away. They are good and inexpensive ($12 mani, $32 mani-pedi). Amy is my favorite girl there.

With 9 rooms you should pick a hotel, call and ask for the Sales Department. Normally, 10 rooms is the minimum for a group, but since you're there for two nights 18 rooming nights will probably get the Sales Manager's attention. Ask them what kind of group rate you could get with no comp room. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Absolutely Las Olas. 17th Street is a really busy, industrial area.

We stayed at that Best Western in April. We didn't get a chance to explore as we flew from west coast and got there mid-day and left in a.m. for ship. They have a nice breakfast area and we enjoyed the pool. There is a strip mall down the block and across the street. We ate at Millers Ale House - people were nice, food was good. I know this isn't what you asked about, but if you end up just hanging out wanted to let you know what was around! When we left it didn't seem like it was far (via cab) to AIA and the beach.
