Cigar Smoking - Grandeur

Recommended Posts

I’ve read RCI’s smoking policy carefully. I’ve called RCI 5 times and spoken with cheerful customer service representatives. I know that cigar smoking is prohibited to very small areas of the ship since the Grandeur doesn’t have a cigar bar. No one on the phones seem to know where these cigar specific smoking areas are located.

My Beloved enjoys an occasional cigar. I’d like to know prior to our October sailing where he’ll be able to savor his smoke. He won’t just light up on deck and annoy folks.

We’d both prefer scoping out the legit places first thing upon boarding.

Anyone have any first-hand experience on the Grandeur?

(Yes, we know it’s a filthy, disgusting habit. We know it is offensive. We know the health risks. The man enjoys a fine cigar and he is polite with his smoke. No need to expound upon the horrors of smoking or ill-mannered smokers. We ain’t those folks.)

Thanks for your help!

I have not been on Grandeur. That being said, they'll usually have a location for smoking cigars, in the evening. You can check your compass. FWIW, I have smoked cigars in the outside smoking areas, say the pool deck, and not had an issue. I know it's breaking the rules, so let your conscience be your guide. Enjoy your cruise.

The designated outdoor public smoking area on Grandeur is the pool deck, (deck 9) portside. We saw several cigar smokers there. I also saw a few people smoking cigarettes on the outside promenade deck (deck 5), but that was limited in my experience. While cigarette smoking is also permitted on balconies, I would avoid cigars there - and the promenade deck as well.

We were on the Grandeur in May this year. I looked at our Cruise Compass and under the section titled "Smoking Areas" it said -

24 hrs. - Casino Royale, Pool Bar and Outside Deck 9 Starboard Side, Outside Deck 5 Starboard Side. After 9pm in the Viking Crown Lounge.

It did not say anything about cigars.

Any of the designated smoking areas on Grandeur will work and they also turn the upper area of the Viking Crown into a 'cigar bar' in the evenings after like 9pm if I remember correctly. Never had any issues smoking cigars onboard. Enjoy!!

Actually I think cigars and pipes are prohibited in a few of the designated smoking areas, such as the casino. On past cruises, I remember cigars being restricted to one outside area, and the cigar bar, if there was one. The daily newsletter should make everything clear when you board.

This is posted on FAQ's on RC's site:

" Pipe and cigar smoking is only permitted within the Cigar lounge. (If no Cigar lounge exists on a particular ship, there will be a designated area for pipe and cigar smoking)."

I've enjoyed the occasional cigar on my balcony. No one has ever raised an issue. In one instance, my neighbor asked if I could refrain. I happily obliged, and asked if they would mind if I enjoyed one later while they weren't on their balcony, and they said that would be fine.

Feel free to flog me for my cardinal sin!:D

I would but then I'd have to put my cigar down to find my flogger... and that isn't happening. :p

I've always enjoyed the Viking Crown when turned into a 'cigar bar' in the evenings. Everyone sits close to each other so great conversations with others. They typically have football on to watch while you smoke.

Sports? Cigars and sports and interesting conversations in a bar?

Oh lord, my poor Beloved may have to drag me out kicking and screaming at the end of the evening.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences and for keeping the conversation fun!
