Hart10 Posted August 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Hi everyone, looking for feedback on if you see any concern on picking up a return fight at 11:45 out of FLL March 8th 2014 coming off Eclipse? Looking to book and normally I get a 1ish flight and wait. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
cynalan Posted August 14, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Hi everyone, looking for feedback on if you see any concern on picking up a return fight at 11:45 out of FLL March 8th 2014 coming off Eclipse? Looking to book and normally I get a 1ish flight and wait. Should be no problem at all. I am usually off X ships by 9:00. The trip from Port Everglades to the airport is about 15 minutes max. Don't worry, you'll be fine.
RickT Posted August 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Won't be a problem unless the ship is delayed or debarkation is delayed. I wouldn't have a problem booking that time given how close the ship is to the airport.
C 2 C Posted August 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Can you book that flight through ChoiceAir for a little extra insurance?
phoenix_dream Posted August 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2013 No guarantees (I have been on a cruise in FLL that did not start disembarkation until after 9:30), but in almost all cases that time should work.
WpgCruise Posted August 14, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2013 March 8 is a Saturday, and if you are on an "S" class ship I suspect they will be using Terminal 24/25. If so, and the Customs sequestration continues, and the port has 7-8 ships as it has on Saturdays in the past, no way would I book anything before 1:00p.m. If you can wait before booking flights until the experience of people sailing through December are known, and all goes well to that point than sure an earlier flight might work, but for us, we'll wait before making flight commitments until we see how the process is working this season. Here's a couple of pics of the Terminal 24/25 process. We were put off the ship, then walking along the blue canopy and into the terminal where the total wait for us was about 2 hours. Hopefully Celebrity has a better option this year, and if not, it'll be our last "S" class cruise with Celebrity on a weekend with Terminal 24/25 from Fort Lauderdale. The first pic is from forward to the terminal The second pic is from mid ship and then we enjoyed the walk to the terminal, forward into the first pic. bphman Posted August 14, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2013 We've done it plenty of times and never had a problem doing both self debarkation and assigned. Taxis can be a problem, though and a BIG problem is the TSA at FLL. It can take an hour or so if they are busy. Very disorganized and few lanes were open. They ahd no body scanners open and a lot of pat downs. My son had a 10 am flight and made it in good time after getting off the Independence of the Seas. Keith1010 Posted August 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Check with your airline to see what time you have to arrive to the airport since you are traveling to Canada. With the budget issues Port Everglades was experiencing delays with disembarkation due to insufficient personnel who clear passengers/the ship. Not sure if this will get worse during the busy cruising season. Keith
Budget Queen Posted August 14, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2013 I agree, verify with the airline the guidelines, being this is an INTERNATIONAL flight, it looks like some of the above are referring to domestic in their recommendations. I too have sailed into here, and experienced delays getting off ships. the airport is very close which is a bonus. :)
FlyerTalker Posted August 14, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Can you book that flight through ChoiceAir for a little extra insurance? Why would you think that buying through ChoiceAir would give you anything above a ticket from the airline directly? Fact is, you would likely be in worse shape than buying direct. Read the sticky at the top and threads on ChoiceAir and consolidator/bulk tickets.
