rolfecms Posted August 15, 2013 #26 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Hi Clarence,We really enjoyed our cruise on the Marco Polo, however having cruised on the Silhouette shortly afterwards it was difficult not to compare the two. The M.P is obviously a much smaller ship with cabins being somewhat smaller. The food in the buffet restaurant is not at Celebrity standards, however it was still quite good and you won't go hungry. The itinerary was really good and excursion prices we found to be very reasonable, certainly compared with Celebrity. Drinks prices are also very good and there is no 15%surcharge. Although the ship is small, the public areas are of a decent size and we found the entertainment to be pretty good. Staff are very good and we could not fault the service at all. Finally, the cost of the cruise was just over a quarter of the cost of the Silhouette and it was this that made it a no brainer for us, especially as it sailed from Edinburgh. Hope this is of help to you. Thanks for your comments! We're looking for a more classic cruise experience than Celebrity now provides us, so that's why Marco Polo caught our eye. SoBe2010 Posted August 15, 2013 #27 Share Posted August 15, 2013 No way to compare it. It´s like Audi against Mitsubishi. I am from Europe but we take everything what´s necessary to avoid MSC or Costa. Celebrity is premium. MSC just a wanna be...
ronniecy1993 Posted August 16, 2013 Author #28 Share Posted August 16, 2013 hey do you know what i mean, as the only perk of MSC is its itinerary, i am considering whether to enojoy the itinerary (MSC), or enjoy the services (Celebrity) I know that Celebrity is a premium to MSC, if they had the same schedule i would definitely choose Celebrity. No way to compare it. It´s like Audi against Mitsubishi. I am from Europe but we take everything what´s necessary to avoid MSC or Costa. Celebrity is premium. MSC just a wanna be... tactic Posted August 18, 2013 #29 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Hi Goody1, We have cruised Celebrity for quite a while as my signature below indicates. We are now considering a Marco Polo cruise. This is off-topic, but I see you've cruised both too. How was Marco Polo as a cruise line? Thanks, Clarence Horses for courses, everyone has their own preferences etc but we have sailed most major lines, on a huge variety of ships but the once we did Marco Polo was the last, there were terrible diesel smells, awful buffet and unbelievably rude guests. We went with an open mind but that was difficult. We love cruising but would stay home rather than do Marco Polo again. Sorry if this offends anyone that is just my opinion. X and RCI are in a different league.
tactic Posted August 18, 2013 #30 Share Posted August 18, 2013 We have had wonderful x cruises and we did MSC for the first time at Easter this year. We had a great time. We jumped ship at the penultimate port as we wanted to stay in sorrento for a few days, the staff were amazing, we could not fault MSC, the service was amazing the immigration officer escorted us ashore in a tender, they went above and beyond. We enjoyed the more casual approach and the suite we had was fab. Although we have booked x for next year we would never rule out MSC if the itinerary was more suited to us.
