Oasis and overwhelmed !

Recommended Posts

I'm very excited to be going on the Oasis in 3 weeks ! We have been on 35 cruises, so cruising is not new to us. But the size of this lady is !!

I've seen several YouTube videos and have to say its mind blowing !

My question is, how do you keep from being overwhelmed ?

Our cabin is on deck 6, center of the hump.

We'll be on Oasis in 7 weeks and the biggest challenge to us will be avoiding the Windjammer for lunch - sounds like it is a zoo. I'm making a cheat sheet with places we can do lunch with fewer people. I plan on enjoying the ship more than the ports on this cruise. Looking forward to the experience!

A week isn't long enough... Unfortunately I learned that too late.

I would agree and don't be too hard on yourself if/when you can't "do it all". She is large and there is much to do... give yourself a break if you are simply too tired one night to do what you planned. Yes, it can happen - plans change... allow yourself to go with the flow and do what you want.

35 cruises....there is nothing that should "overwhelm" you!

Ahh, spoken by someone who has not sailed Oasis class, I must say. It is very easy to be overwhelmed. When you sail on Oasis class, you let us know. :)

EDITED TO ADD: Nice cabin! We had the center hump on Deck 8. The hump balconies are larger on this class of ship. Good choice! Enjoy.

You arrive in port and go .

Go through check in, walk on the ship and go .

And for the following 7 days you are going .

So, to answer your question.... You don't. haha.

I, too, stayed on deck 6 and it was perfect. One above the Royal Promenade and Boardwalk, 2 above the entertainment place(Ice Skating Rink, Casino, Comedy Club, etc. and 2 below Central Park. :D

You'll enjoy the ship very much. I know I did. And just like any other cruise, you'll find there are areas you like to frequent more often than others. So it turns into a "normal cruise". lol.

I've been on Oasis last November and I was overwhelmed, too! DH thought that I was a bit crazy to book a cruise on one of the largest cruiseships in the world. Well, let me tell you, on the third day of the cruise, DH asked if we should go to the Loyalty counter and book another cruise on Oasis for February 2014 :D. To top that, once we were home, we booked the transatlantic on Oasis in October 2014. And then, DH announced that he thinks he needs to try Allure as well :). See below :p.

We were on the Allure two years ago when she first came out. There is nothing to compare it to. The entertainment is over the top. There are so many free places to eat, we never even went to the windjammer. There are many pay places to eat too. We made a list of things to do and checked them off as we went. We did not make it to everything so we booked again for next year.

What everyone else has said is true but at least everyone who's trying out these ships now has the advantage of information at their fingertips. Going on these ships armed with knowledge is a huge bonus. When I went on the Oasis Inaugural the first time it was MY first cruise and had only found CC a few months prior. We had so little information compared to what's out there now and we survived without a panic attack.

Just sit back, arm yourself with as much info as you can and have a great time!

Scrapy- make a list of activities/things you want to do & see..I.E.,don't miss the "Aqua Park diving show'...or "sit in infinity canti-levered hot tubs in adult solarium ( deck 15 front or bow, don't miss!!)...or "take stroll in central park at night"....keep in mind you may not accomplish all in one week...we kept wanting to go to Dazzles, the night club on decks 8 & 9 because I love live music, but something else always came up...do your dining & shows on line FIRST ( don't miss Hairspray- best production show I've ever seen in 28 cruises!!)...then another list like the stuff I mentioned earlier..keep asking questions here or watch the YouTube videos and if you see something you want to do ( I.E.,Zipline), mark it down....we had a hump cabin on deck 9- they are great & great views of the sea..listen, if you're a bit overwhelmed by a cruise on Oasis, it sure beats being overwhelmed by work at home or at work,LOL!!! Have a great cruise and have a coconut cupcake on deck 5 for Big Al!!

Our first cruise (ever) was on the Oasis in June. We ate in the WJ once... for breakfast one morning. We had lunch at Sorrentos, Park Cafe, Cafe Promonade, Wipeout Cafe, Solarium Bistro, and off the ship (port days). We had breakfast at Park Cafe, our single trip to the WJ, Solarium Bistro, Wipeout Cafe, and room service (x2).

Dinner was MDR (x4), 150, Giovanni's, and Chops.

THANKS, everyone, for all your suggestions and reassurances !!

We feel very blessed to have this opportunity to go on this beautiful ship ! I'm sure it will rate at the top ! You should see the 1st ship we went on, The Costa Flavia, 37 years ago...our honeymoon :-). It would look like a lifeboat compared to the Oasis :D

Big Al....coconut cupcakes, yum !!

Our first was on the Dolphin IV. I was thinking the same thing -- a lifeboat compared to Oasis. We are going on Oasis in November and we can hardly wait. I've made a spreadsheet of all the food and show venues, where they're located on the ship, if they require reservations, and what fees are involved (if any), to help us (hopefully) get to at least some of the things we want to try while on this cruise. And like everyone else says, if we don't try them all, I suppose that means we'll have to go back for a second trip!

Enjoy. :)

I can still hear the Flavia band playing those romantic Italian songs :-)

And making announcements in English and Italian !

Guess you never forget your 1st cruise :)

That was our 1st cruise too....and I thought the ship looked soooo big...until we were docked next to a Carnival ship in Nassau...we were sitting on the Dolphin top deck...craining our necks up looking up at the ship next to us!:D

I haven't sailed Oasis or Allure yet...but plan to in the not to distant future...the good thing is I've been to the ports they sail to so many times I want to just stay on & explore & enjoy the ship!

Have to say,,when we first came on board and you walk right into the promenade it is a bit overwhelming,,,,but ship is pretty much laid out like the Freedom class ships..

My favorite part of the ship is Central Park,,if we would go back on the Lady O, I would spend alot of time there,,so nice in the morning to go for breakfast and sit outside..:)Happy Cruising...

I see that you're sailing on Freedom this December. We sailed her sister, Liberty, a few years back and she is a beautiful ship as well.

The Oasis was our first cruise. We were nervous thinking it may feel crowded with so many people. We didn't feel that at all and absolutely loved it! We didn't realize how ginormous the ship was until we were on an excursion and saw her from a distance. We didn't get to do everything because there is so much to do...oh well, I guess we will just have to sail on her again. :)

I've sailed on QM2 which was the largest at that time, and I sailed years ago on the Dolphin, a toy boat by comparison. Size doesn't mean a lot except in terms of the number of amenities.

Since there are so many places to eat all over the ship, think of the calories you'll burn getting around.

That's what I'm telling myself. We're sailing on Oasis Oct 5 and I'm excited about it. Told DH I'm going to the shows for the first time in years.

Don't know much about Wipeout Cafe but I heard they have hot dogs. I'm looking forward to a good one, and plain food makes a great break from all the rich MDR food.
