atlantic cruiser Posted August 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Does anyone have current information as to the cost of Turkish visa. It seems to be much less of a hassle to buy it on arrival at the airport. The online system is so cumbersome. I am just not sure what the fee is at present and I know you must have exact cash. We are Canadians so not sure. Old posts refer to $20.00 US. Would appreciate some help. Thanks.
John Bull Posted August 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Current cost at the airport for a Canuk is 60USD or 45 euros (you have the choice of either currency). That's not some big recent increase, it's been 60USD for some time - the 20USD that you mention is for US passport holders. Like such big discrepancies worldwide, it's probably tit-for-tat - more expensive for Canadians because Canada is more expensive for Turkish visitors. http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/details/BorderFormalities/ I think ,but have no experience, that an e-visa on-line costs the same. The visa booth at Ataturk airport is on the right immediately before immigration. A lot of folk walk straight past it because they don't need a visa. Or because they simply don't notice it, then when they get to the front of the immigration line they're sent back to buy a visa & join the immigration line all over again  JB :)
atlantic cruiser Posted August 16, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Thank you for the information. Just wanted to make sure I could buy it at the airport when we land, as I said the online process is so tedious.
Keith1010 Posted August 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2013 atlantic cruiser, could you please let me know what difficulty you are finding with the on line form? https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ Thanks, Keith

Yes, the e-visa introduced earlier this year is an alternative to buying in cash at the point of entry, not a replacement. Re Keith's query, we've not tried the e-visa but reports I've heard are that it's very easy. JB :)
atlantic cruiser Posted August 16, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Hi Keith ( I"ll make it on Crystal one of these days but this is for an Oceania cruise)!!! Anyway perhaps it sounds foolish but I thought they wanted an awful lot of personal information, parents names etc and financial documentation of how you were supporting yourself while in Turkey. Sounds bizarre to me so I thought it would be simpler to just buy it at the airport. My only worry is that this service has been discontinued since buying it online was introduced. Just my thoughts. Can't believe for Canadians it is US $60.00. Ouch.
Keith1010 Posted August 16, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks so much Atlantic Cruiser. I had been told that the application was similar to an Australia ETA but it sounds like they are asking much more personal questions based on what you posted. atlantic cruiser Posted August 16, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Hi Keith, Forgot to mention you also have to submit a photo and a bank statement showing you have enough funds to support yourself while in Turkey. Think I will buy it at the airport in Istanbul.
ab21au Posted August 16, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Hi Keith, Forgot to mention you also have to submit a photo and a bank statement showing you have enough funds to support yourself while in Turkey. Think I will buy it at the airport in Istanbul. A few weeks ago, I applied online using the link Keith posted and for 4 visas it didn't take long, only a matter of minutes. Didn't have to provide photo or bank statement. May need this for long term stays, perhaps. The cost varies for different countries. Steps are easy, apply, they provide download button, download and print it. Too easy.
Keith1010 Posted August 16, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2013 ab21au, that is what I expected. Maybe it's been revised. Keith

It only asked for basic info such as Passport #, address, birthdate, parent's name, birthplace, etc.
Keith1010 Posted August 17, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2013 cruisemom42, great to hear too. It really is supposed to be like an Australia ESTA. Based on the last two posts I would not get the visa at the airport. The whole idea behind this is to obtain it from home and not have to stand on any lines. There is talk that longer term this will eliminate the selling of the visas at the airport and at ports which to me makes perfect sense. ab21au Posted August 17, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2013 I also agree, online is easy and they do not require anything more than cruisemom and keith have stated above. I'm sure it would not have changed in the past couple of weeks since I did mine.
Sailmore Posted August 18, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 18, 2013 We were in Turkey in May and did the online visa application prior. Very easy and means you can put on credit card ahead and don't need to bring the $60US cash per person. You print off the emailed copy and on arrival take it to passport clearance. If it is a busy day at airport, it means one less line up and one less thing to think about after a long travel day. If you do it at airport, it is supposed to be equally easy, but you must have exact cash amount. You definitely don't need photo or bank info to get visa online. rasybanks Posted August 20, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I am Canadian and got the e visa yesterday, painless and took less than 5 minutes to complete, pay and download. Hope it saves time at airport.
Josie2 Posted August 20, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Canadians who are stopping as a port stop only on a cruise do not need a Visa according to my info.
Sailmore Posted August 20, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 20, 2013 You are right, if it is just a day off the ship. The person above said they were arriving at the airport, so I believe that the visa is necessary.

Keith1010 Posted August 29, 2013 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2013 When you are overnight and staying on the ship you do not need a visa for turkey and that is true for all cruise line passengers. Keith

two sheds Posted August 29, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 29, 2013 The rule seems to be that if you visit as a port-of-call, ie if you arrive & depart on the cruise ship no visa is necessary, but if your cruise starts or ends in Turkey, eg you fly in or out, you will need a visa.
