Didn't see any. Guess you can say it's worth repeating again ;) :D Yeah, the search function is pretty useless so I'm not surprised. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1898735 There was another one but couldn't find it. It doesn't bother me at all if something's posted multiple times so I hope I didn't come off that way. I actually think it's nice to have this thread dedicated to the kindness of the Captain that day. :)

I hope they charged these people well and everyone is aware that stragglers don't get "a free ride".
sailingnut Posted August 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Yes, you are right, it does say to other people, it is alright to be late~~many people have been left and the ship went on! I hope that the two people appreciate it, the ship did not have to do that for them! They always tell you to be on a half hour early~~it is your responsibility. :)

I hope they charged these people well and everyone is aware that stragglers don't get "a free ride". I don't know if I agree with you entirely. He's not the first Captain to wait for passengers (many don't) and it's not like he pulled back into port for them. It may have looked like an easy transition back to the ship but what they experienced is not something I'd want to go through if I could possibly help it. I don't think most people would think to themselves, "It's okay if I'm late...I can be tugged out to sea and then I get to climb up a rope ladder to the ship and be completely embarrassed." I also don't think people will expect NCL to do that for everyone. I think it's more of a precedent if the ship had waited and had never pulled away from the pier until they got on. I think that Captain should be commended. It's not frequently that humanity puts mercy and grace before principle. It would be different if they were serial offenders but we don't know their history or why they were late. But, who knows. I try to be considerate of others' time and schedule so it would never have occurred to me to push my luck getting back to the ship anyway unless it couldn't be helped. elron Posted August 18, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Doesn't bother me. People should be able to run up their post counts as high as they can get them. We should, and do have, multiple threads on many topics. It is quite fun wading through all of this redundant information. What is especially fun is when someone resurrects a five year old thread and adds incorrect information to already outdated information. Oh, and then there is the person that reads the OP's initial comment/question on a thread and responds without reading the other multiple answers already given ad nauseum. I hear what your saying. Nothing new here! Been here B4 2000, Then they changed the format. Lost some posts counts but who cares. Seen a lot heard a lot here. Either I roll with it or I don't! No biggie! Still a great "Cruise Forum"!
sjnyc323 Posted August 19, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I think Captain Svedung should have left them behind There was no reason not to her back on time as the other 4848 passengers did Suzanne
sdmike Posted August 19, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I think Captain Svedung should have left them behind There was no reason not to her back on time as the other 4848 passengers did Suzanne Easy to say if it's not you. Since I have no idea what circumstances caused the brief delay I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Nice of the captain to wait, but as stated by others, I'd prefer to not ever be in that position.
Novastar Posted August 19, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2013 It might have been a different story if the late-comers had not been young, agile and able to climb the rope ladder.
johnsak123 Posted August 19, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I would definitely want them to wait for me However, I might not be so kind to wait for others Selfish.... I guess so

Beaver1975 Posted August 19, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 19, 2013 They looked calm and knew what they were doing getting on board. Possibly crew members. ;) Crew members have to be back on board a half an hour before passengers last call. If a crew member saw the ship sailing away they would head directly to the airport for a flight home because they know they are no longer employed by that cruise line. ;)

I saw that happen in Nassau. Two crew members missed the ship and caught a ride on the pilot boat to the ship. A couple of days later, I asked the Captain how they handled the discipline for them, and he said ---- They don't work here anymore.

The Captain must have been in a good mood to hold up the ship just for them. If you are late to the ship, the port agent will try to get you to the next port at your expense. We don't know what their circumstances were, but they may be billed by the tug, and NCL as well. What ever the cost, I'm sure that It would have been cheaper than hotel bills and flights home. In order for them to fly home, they would need passports, which were probably in their cabin.......if they had them at all.
RACRLS Posted August 20, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2013 It's good to praise the NCL Captain and crew for helping to get these two passengers on board, however, lets not forget the extra effort of the Bermudian shore personnel and the crew of the Tug. They deserve some credit also.
