Girly question but what to do I wear the first day!

Hi all,

Bit of a girly question but what would you recommend wearing on the first day/night of your cruise? As I understand it, you won't receive you luggage for a while? I didn't know if the first night was a formal evening or just casual?

We're staying in the Yacht Club - is there a different dress code for their restaurant? We're not dressy people and prefer comfort but I don't mind a couple of times in the week :) would we look out of place without tux and ballgown!?

Less than 2 weeks on the Preziosa! Cannot wait!

First night is usually casual on all cruises. Resort casual is the normal dress code the first night.

Yes, always casual first night. Some aboard will not receive their luggage before dinner (me on my last). The 2nd night is a good candidate to be formal, depending upon where most guests embark.

The evening dress code is for the ship, but YC being YC, if YC guests don't want to comply, they won't. Expect a mix!

I think with Preziosa boarding and disembarking at multiple ports what will be first night for some will be formal also as others already on board.

I have heard that Barcelona is formal night which will be my first night.

Not an issue waiting for your cases in YC.

As others have said first night is casual but only if you are embarking at the main port. (Normally Genoa or Venice but there are others).

I've never waited very long on my case, an hour to an hour and a half and as I try to wet onboard around one, I've always got plenty time to unpack and change for dinner (but I always eat second sitting anyway)

I think you have been lucky, Mairi. From my Musica blog...

"Despite having checked in at 11:30, our luggage did not arrive until almost 18:30. If we had been on the first sitting at dinner we would have spent the first day without our luggage. I can only understand that they must load the luggage onto the ship in a gigantic pile and because we were early on, our luggage was at the bottom of the pile."

It was the same for some of our tablemates and had had the same idea as me.

On the Fantasia, I had my bag taken off me at the terminal around midday but did receive until after 10pm - then there was the small issue of my orange-cutting knife that had caused a delay. Still, there had been no note to let me know and I had to chase it up at reception in a very weary state.

On the next cruise, I will be holding on to my modest trolley case as I board!

We stayed on the YC on the Fantasia in February sailing from Santos (Brazil) and since we had a YC exclusive place to check-in, our luggage went with us in the van that brought us to the ship, so we got our luggage always with us. I don't know how it works for the other ports, but I don't think you will experience problems being on the YC :)

I am wondering about this too.... We board in Naples.

Does anybody know which ports the formal nights are.
