SDakota Cruiser Posted August 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2013 My DW and I will be leaving on a 14 day HAL cruise leaving Montreal on Aug. 24. We have several private tours reserved. The tours will be in six passenger vans and the tours will last from 4-6 hours. What is a very fair tip to give to the tour guide and how about a separate driver? What is recommended for tipping the driver? Thank you in advance for your suggestion and/or advice.

MEcruzr Posted August 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2013 Hmmm... I usually tip 15 to 20% of the total cost of my share. $200 tour = $30 to $40 tip. Of course, if I'm not happy with the tour, I tip much less. Sometimes nothing. For instance, we once went on a small tour "bus" (12 passengers at the most). The driver talked on and on in Spanish (other passengers were Spanish speaking) and then gave a one line explanation in English. Such as, "That's the court building." He didn't get a tip. On a large coach bus tour I usually tip $5. When there are two people, such as a tour guide and a driver, I give one tip... and be sure to say, "That's for both of you." Are you sharing the van with others?
LHT28 Posted August 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2013 At least 10% of the tour price maybe 5% to the driver if he is not the guide as well
