Dry cleaning on board

I've read that one can either send out laundry on the ship, but do they also offer dry cleaning?

Yes, and often it is less expensive than you would pay at home. Most cruise lines offer same day (more expensive of course) or next day service.

Many cruise lines have discontinued or will shortly stop doing dry cleaning. The problem is disposal of dry cleaning chemicals.

Princess & Holland America have discontinued doing on board dry cleaning . Most laundry that you give to the room steward is done overnight. There is a specific in the AM that you leave the laundry bag on the bed and it is returned the next day in the PM.

The dry cleaning you know on land is no longer allowed on cruise ships.

The chemicals are carcinogenic and very difficult to safely dispose of.

Instead, the major cruise lines offer a "wet cleaning" process that is much safer.

However, the results are not always as good as dry cleaning.

If you have very high quality or very delicate clothing, sending it for this wet cleaning process is risky.

You may want to specify the cruise line/ship you will be sailing. Many of us are familiar with the cruise line(s) we sail, but probably none of us can say every line has this facility

Ah, good point. I'll be on the norwegian Jade. Thanks.

Celebrity and RCL do an excellent job - But although P&O had a dry cleaning price menu with bags left in your stateroom, P&O do not do it.

Kamloops50 has posted that Princess has discontinued dry cleaning - perhaps they DID an excellent job.

Free dry cleaning is still listed as a perk in Captain's Circle. We have had it on the last cruises and are looking forward to it on the next four we have booked. We have received no notice it has been stopped.

The August 2013 Captain's Circle Magazine says Elite level gets "Complementary professional cleaning, laundry services and shoe polishing".

Now, it's called professional cleaning rather than dry cleaning because of the different process they use. Same results as dry cleaning. Our things have always come back fine. No complaints from us on using the new process. :)
