hannahsmomtoo Posted August 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Does anyone know if minors are allowed in the Punchliner? Before I get slammed, I am referring to teenagers..not young children. I know they were allowed in the Karaoke bar last year, but curious if they will be able to see any of the early shows with us. Thank you !

Quite a few kids go to the shows that are early in the evening. the material used for the early show is appropriate for all ages....the R rated later at night is 18 and up. beacha Posted August 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Do not take teens to the adult shows. I'm pretty liberal, but the shows I saw were dirty sex jokes and stereotypes that were cheap. Not funny to us at all. I liked Richard Pryor and George Carlin....intellectual stuff.

Anyway, it does depend on the comedian. Some are extremely popular (like Mutzie).
Almost Packed Posted August 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I have taken my kids to the punchliner comedy show for the all ages. no problems. I have gone with my ds who is 18 and I got up and walked out once because it was so raunchy. I tried it again (different comedian, different cruise) and ds & i had fun but it certainly was adults only. Don't try to sneak in your kids. You will be uncomfortable and so will they! they did walk around and tell under 18 to leave.

Went to an R rated show with our adult children and we felt rather funny Thank you ! I'm surprised that the "family" show would be that way.. but I wouldn't allow them in anything that was labeled as "adult" regardless. Pick a Carnival cruise. Any Carnival cruise. :) In fairness to all, they are supposed to clear the venue between sets to eliminate chair hogs. I know they were allowed in the Karaoke bar last year, but curious if they will be able to see any of the early shows with us.Thank you ! The early shows are Family Friendly; so yes. The Adult Show is 18+. But on my cruise on Valor there was a kid in the adult show. He was hiding, but was there with family. The comedian noticed him and called him out. I thought staff would ask him to leave, but they didn't. I guess they figured if his family allowed him in there, why should they kick him out. I will say the comedian embarrassed him though. He purposely started talking about sex and the male anatomy. The kid was recognized around the ship for the remainder of the cruise.

Rosefloater Posted August 20, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2013 My 16 y.o. niece has joined her mom and me at the R-rated show. She looks older than her age and we sat near the back. No one noticed her or if they did, didn't ask her to leave. Most of the contents of the material the comedians did, she has already heard either in high school or on the internet. To me would depend upon age of the kids in making a decision whether they could go.
suzinva Posted August 20, 2013 #22 Share Posted August 20, 2013 My son was 17 on our last cruise (Pride, last August). According to the comedy club manager, the age limit is 18 for the non-family shows. However, he said that if older kids are with their parents, sit in the back and are behaving, they generally don't ask them to leave. But, if they come in with a group of friends without adult presence, they kick them out. We took my son, he's heard worse at school and on other comedy shows. Yeah, it was raunchy and yes, there may have been one or two uncomfortable moments but you move on. We had a good time.
Almost Packed Posted August 20, 2013 #23 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I didn't say anything about sneaking them in? No you didn't. But I thought I'd offer up that advice in case you were, or anyone else reading this public forum was. Many others commented on this thread about things that you didn't say either. It's not a big deal, no need to call me out. It's just a forum for info. May I leave the corner now mother?:D
minerva78 Posted August 21, 2013 #24 Share Posted August 21, 2013 During an adult comedy show on our last cruise, one of the comedians was actually joking about the family friendly comedy acts, saying that he still told some of the same jokes, just without being as vulgar. He was making a point that just because it's "family friendly" doesn't mean it's something you want little kids to hear! Apparently some people were bringing really young kids into the family shows, and were in for a bit of a shock. :). A teen should be fine in the family comedy though.
