Honeymooner15 Posted August 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Few questions 1. Has anyone asked for other foods to be made during the reception? I'm picky and their options do not sound appealing to me. 2. Can you do a vow renewal on embarkation day? They always seem cheaper than a wedding. I'd rather save money by getting married in a courthouse and have a renewal on the ship 3. Anything that might be helpful in planning? Anything the don't tell you on the website? Thanks! lightskinedgyal Posted August 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2013 1) There is a second option i saw it awhile ago i cant find it but it was on this board maybe Shatima remembers. 2) No you can only do vow renewals during the cruise trip 3) Keep checking on here there is great advice everyday! Carnival_Brides Posted August 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2013 1) These are the alternative menus I was sent. The Carving Station does have an up-charge. FWIW--the lamb empanadas and chicken nuggets on the original menu are AMAZING! 2) Carnival will not do vow renewals on embarkation day and formal night(s). They prefer them on sea-days, but I know someone on this board managed to pull off a Half Moon Cay (on-ship) vow renewal last year. They are much less expensive for the same exact product, but the trade-off is your guests have to sail. 3) Sometimes getting information from CCL Weddings is like extrapolating information from a 4 year old. A lot of couple check in here because most of us have asked the questions you need answering.
nixiemaiden Posted August 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2013 When did they send you the menus?
Carnival_Brides Posted August 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2013 When did they send you the menus? On my initial call with my coordinator after I booked. I mentioned that I wasn't sure about my guests enjoying the canapes and lamb empanadas, so Sajay emailed these over to see if they interested me. We actually ended up getting the original menu and everyone really enjoyed the food.
nixiemaiden Posted August 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I didn't get any menus at all...not even original ones. When I booked my reception all they sent over was a form for the DJ. I guess I will e-mail my coordinator!
NL2134 Posted August 21, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I was actually planning on asking my coordinator if there was an alternative menu, also, so this is very helpful. Both FI and I, are very picky eaters. We are the "steak and potatoes" types... not big fans of vegetables, absolutely no seafood. So, their standard hors d'oervres menu didn't really appeal to us much. And I'm not sure it would appeal to most of our guests either. We were actually debating asking if we could add the pizza party to our reception and just add a couple pizzas along with standard menu. That way we would know there was something there that was edible. But, I think I like the carving station idea better. Definitely more suitable for a wedding than pizza, at least. The alternative hors d'oervres menu doesn't look any better than the standard one though. I'll probably stick with the standard menu and just add the carving station. The pasta station doesn't look bad either though.
NL2134 Posted August 21, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I asked my wedding coordinator about alternate menus and she just sent me the current documents today. The menus look to be the same that Carnival_Brides posted. But, it looks like they have raised the prices for the carving station & pasta bar. Attached are the standard wedding hors d'oeuvres menu (as of 7/12/13), the special/alternate wedding hors d'oeuvres menu (as of 8/21/13), and the carving station menu (as of 8/21/13). NL2134 Posted August 21, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I didn't get any menus at all...not even original ones. When I booked my reception all they sent over was a form for the DJ. I guess I will e-mail my coordinator! Wow, right after I initially booked the wedding on the phone, they e-mailed me the contract, along with 16 other documents, including ceremony outline, standard menu, cake options, DJ/entertainment, videographer info/options, photograph package pricing, boarding & security info, directions to the port, wedding license info, Lido deck lunch form (for non-sailing guests), guest list form, and tuxedo rental info. A lot of the boarding, security, and wedding license info appears to be specific to New Orleans port, but I would think they would have similar documents for all of the ports. But, you should have received the rest of the documents. I would definitely check with your wedding coordinator.

It really comes down to who your coordinator is. We had Sajay (who does Pride and Paradise) and for the most part she was great to work with. It took her 2 weeks to do our initial call since she had the wrong phone number (I have no idea how), but everything we requested through her was done when we got on board. Honeymooner15 Posted August 22, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted August 22, 2013 Looks like ill have pay an up charge for the pasta. Boo. I just wish they'd give you a whole list of starters and you pick and choose. I only like a couple on the original and a couple on the alternate. I only like a couple on the original and a couple on the alternate. My email from my coordinator said "You may select 5 cold items and 6 hot items between the original menu and this alternate menu list." So you may want to check on that. To me it sounds like you may be able to mix & match between them.
