1 Part Sand 1 Part Sea Posted August 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Hubs and I have decided a cruise is in order. Things have been a bit rough lately and we want some time to reconnect, just us two. I told him it has to be asap, so we've decided on either Sept 14th or 29th (I think that's what it was.. give or take a day) 8 day from nyc on the splendor. We are driving from nh, so no need to book flights or even hotel. Even still, am I biting off more than I can chew? We're easy people, doesn't take much to please us, but I'm still nervous! Cruising Golfer Posted August 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2013 We were on the Splendor last year from Long Beach to Mexico... Wonderful ship with a great crew, no worries just go have a good time. Reconnect, enjoy each other and relax!!!:D
golfadj Posted August 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Everyone who cruises does it the first time and thinks it is somewhat overwhelming. All you gotta do is drive to NY find someplace to park and get on the ship. Easier than our first time when we drove 950 miles each way
soccersharon Posted August 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2013 You'll be fine :) A month is plenty of time to get things organized. You can visit the East Coast departures board for parking tips etc. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=415 Have a wonderful cruise! Kenito Posted August 21, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I think your best defense against a case of the nerves is to just jump in to the Carnival website and here on CC... just keep nosing around to find out all you can find out. Find the roll call for your cruise... check out where to park for the best deals... it may be that you can find a hotel with a 'stay and park' plan so you can add a night in NYC for some fun... check out your ports so you can plan which day you want to spend together in the spa, or a quite beach. Surprise your hubs with room service in the morning as a wake up call... let him know how to order a bottle of champagne to be sent to the room one afternoon, and that he can call room service to order cheese and fruit. Have some photos taken... get into it... they will keep the memory fresh. There is a wealth of information out there, and believe me, people far less 'equipped' than you will be on the cruise with you! Keep your sense of adventure and if something goes wrong, just remember that there will always be an enjoyable meal or activity just around the corner for you to take advantage. Just go for it! Remember the focus is on the two of you... not the schedule, the service, the towel animal, and certainly not the boob who cuts in line! Let everything roll off except the enjoyment of being together. Carnival will have about 1,000 people on board as staff who are trained to make your cruise enjoyable... just relax and let them do their thing! I personally would say do not be nervous in the least, but rather be happy that you have less time to wait for your cruise :D I really think this will be an amazing time for you and your husband. My boyfriend and I were in a similar situation last year where we had broken up and gotten back together. No joke, we booked a cruise FOUR days before the ship was going to leave. And this was a 14 day REPO cruise and his first time cruising! We are definitely go with the flow type of people also, but needless to say he was a bit nervous too. It left out of NY also, and his parents live in NY so we were fortunate to get dropped off, so no worries about parking, flights, or hotels. It was pretty spur of the moment, but even a year later we both agree that it was one of the best decisions we could have ever made. The memories we made were truly amazing, and we wouldn't take it back for anything! We capitalized on this time we had to "reconnect". Are there other things you are worried about like money, excursion availability, etc...? ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY. Try not to stress, planning a few things is the fun part :p

Not sure exactly what I'm worried about, it might be that I'm a thorough planner and this doesn't give me much time to do that! Oh and I am an experienced cruiser, this is my 8th. I've always done it in advance though, this is so soon! Maybe I'm just a worrier lol Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
SadieN Posted August 21, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Make sure you have your documentation in order. Proper BC, valid DL, valid Passport. If not you have time to get these things fixed right now.
wrigley80 Posted August 21, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 21, 2013 There's nothing to be nervous about...you're going on a cruise. Just be sure that you have all your documention (boarding passes, luggage tags, passports) and of course your camera so that you can give us a photo review when you return :p

But some of my best trips have been last minute. Less time to worry that way. A few years ago my sister and I were putting in a lot of time with out mother after she had a stroke. DH called me and said that he had booked a cruise and that I could stay home or go. So I went. I had three hours to run to the store and get something to wear. And get coverage for my "mom time". It was great. Mostly just relaxing.
Boozebabe Posted August 21, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I hate waiting. I have no patience so a short notice cruise is usually what we do. Only trouble is we can never get FTTF. Our Sept 14 cruise was booked July 2nd. Thats a looong wait for me. My toiletries bags are replenished when we return from a trip so they are always ready to go. I also have a cruise wardrobe so thats all ready to go too. Relax, re-connect and have some fun.

Our next cruise will probably be 2 or 3 years 'out', but here I am researching, reading, etc. My wife on the other hand, would probably wait until a week before and then decide to go. Being the PLANNER, I can understand the 'stressed out' and worrying. It is silly though when I think about it. Just DO IT ! Let that adrenaline get you excited (in more ways than one). :o Given that you are an experienced cruiser, NO SWEAT. As long as you have your documentation in order, not a problem. A lot of people take spur of the moment cruises. I told the Mrs just this week that when I retire, we are moving to Florida, get season passes to Disney and more important, take multiple cruises per year. :D:cool: and some of those will be spur of the moment! For this cruise of yours, if you are not that picky about cabin, you could probably snatch a good deal being so close to cruising date. Good luck and HAVE FUN! jmcancruise Posted August 22, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2013 If your stress is related to not being able to be ready, then start making lists. If you can take some time to make lists together now, then when it come time to leave you won't have to worry about forgetting anything. Beyond that, once on board, just go with the flow. Make each other your priorty and cherish the time you have to spend alone together.
CrusingGolfers Posted August 22, 2013 #19 Share Posted August 22, 2013 We booked 3 of our 4 cruises 3-5 weeks out. We always do that. Nothing at all to worry about other than which drink to order once on board. Relax and enjoy a vacation. DW and I booked this morning for one leaving Sept 23rd. Lerin Posted August 22, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 22, 2013 Sorry to be personal, but maybe you are nervous about reconnecting with your husband? I'm not understanding the part about being nervous to take a vacation. You're lucky! If I lived so close to a pier, I'd cruise every few months.
