Kentchikan Posted August 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I'm curious as to whether you have a favorite between Sabatini's and Crown Grill. I know they vary. I've found that on some ships one is better than the other and not always the same one. I wonder if you have an overall preference.
lor74 Posted August 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I have never been to Sabatini's, as the menu does not appeal to me. We always go to the CG at least once on a cruise. In general we love eating there, but the experience does differ from one ship to another.
Pam in CA Posted August 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I've been to both and my preference is the Crown Grill.
PunkiC Posted August 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2013 We love the Crown Grill but it is sooooo much food that we can't handle it more than once per cruise. Well OK we did go there twice on our last cruise but that was only because we had two separate sets of friends on board who wanted to go and we had a lot of OBC we needed to burn. On the Golden, the service was amazing.
TM Posted August 23, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I've also been to both and also prefer the Crown Grill. It just seemed to be a more luxurious atmosphere. Of course we preferred the food there better than Sabatinis.
bermudiana Posted August 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2013 We dine in both, however my personal favorite is Crown Grill.
dchip Posted August 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2013 We have also dined in both. Love, love, love the Crown Grill. Sabatini's not so much. We really didn't enjoy the new menu there at all. Cheers, Denise

Rare JimmyVWine Posted August 23, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2013 If one could combine the Proscuitto, olives, appetizers and Pasta of the Day from Sabatini's with the entrees and desserts at Crown Grill,.....well....you'd pretty much have perfection. With the exception of Sabatini's Veal Chop, we prefer the Mains and Desserts of Crown Grill to those of Sabatini's, but prefer the first half of the meal as done the way Sabatini's does it. And either of these is better (to us) than Bayou or Sterling. We are not big "steak" eaters, so a menu that is "steak-centric" is not to our liking. msmoger Posted August 23, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I love them both. IMO, if you like a good steak house more than a good Italian Restaurant than the Crown Grill is better (or vice versa). For me, I like both. I think the atmosphere is great in both. They certainly differ but are both beautiful. One is very "clubby" and the other has a European elegance. I agree that the Veal Chop in Sabatini's is excellent. :D
ell52 Posted August 23, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2013 Love the appetizers (soft shell crab!) and desserts at Sabbatini's, but overall prefer Crown Grill. .
Astro Flyer Posted August 23, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 23, 2013 We've enjoyed both however if only going to one it would be the Crown Grill because we prefer the CG entree options more than at Sabatini's. In the CG my wife enjoys mussels & lobster entrees so she skips 1st courses & makes the mussels her appetizer. They're just different...a steak & seafood or an Italian dinner with great service at both of them. :)
zaddict Posted August 23, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 23, 2013 Sabatini's for breakfast, Crown Grill for dinner.

dorisis Posted August 23, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 23, 2013 Crown Grill for special occasions. The food in the MDR is fine and often excellent. HC...hardly ever!
Tak8 Posted August 23, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I hit both during a cruise, but Sabatini's is my favorite. The dishes appeal to me more.

AZ Ocean Lover Posted August 23, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 23, 2013 I really like the old format of Sabatini's, not such a fan of the new menu. This time (in 3 weeks, but who's counting) I might just make a meal of the appetizers from Sabatini's vs the entrees. Love the Crown Grill but unfortunately we have the Bayou restaurant on this cruise.

Sunviking Posted August 24, 2013 #23 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Even under the old menu at Sabatinis we never got the "Sabatinis Experience" we only ordered what we wanted. With the new menu I would have to say I prefer Sabatinis over the Crown Grill. We eat almost every night at one or the other since we're not fans of the MDR. Given that we have found it much easier to get an off menu item prepared for us in Sabatinis with the right chef and advanced notice, that would be our preferred venue. Both are very good. As time has passed we have eaten fewer and fewer meals in the dining rooms. Somehow the menus have not been particularly appealing. Last summer on the Crown with our daughter we had overall some very good food even in the dining room. However, the Beef Wellington was one of the worst entrees I've had the misfortune to taste. I know this is all subjective, but there you have it, my opinion
critterchick Posted August 24, 2013 #24 Share Posted August 24, 2013 I'm a Sabatini's fan since they changed the menu. We've only eaten at Crown Grill on Star, and I just didn't get what the fuss was all about. The steaks were ok, the sides were ordinary and the service was just ok. And offering the salts after the meat is cooked makes no sense to me - let me choose before, salt my steak and let it season as it cooks. Just sayin'... I've loved every meal but one unfortunate sea bass at Sabatini's.

I sailed on it years ago.
