onthelake Posted August 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2013 In looking at the bus service from Southampton to London, if we get the bus from the cruise terminal it is £30 but if we go to the 'regular' Southampton bus terminal, the price is £9. We are only planning on having a carry on bag each, not not a lot of luggage. Are these prices accurate? Which drop-off point in London do we use for a connection to Kings Cross? Thank you. tartanexile81 Posted August 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Onthelake, I'm not sure how you're managing to get a price for travelling from the cruise terminal but for 99% of cruises you have to go to the main coach station in Southampton - the ticket that costs £10. You'll have to get a taxi from the cruise terminal to the coach station. It isn't far and will only cost a few pounds. To get from Victoria Coach Station to Kings Cross will also involve a taxi, unless you haven't got much luggage. If you were able to take the underground, you would use the Victoria line from Victoria station (a short walk from the coach station) to Kings Cross St Pancras, which is only about 5 stops. Good luck!
John Bull Posted August 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Nat Express' standard price from the coach station to London is about £17, but there are often promos & price reductions. The cruise terminal option is only for Fred Olsen cruises. If there's no Fred Olsen ship in that day there's no cruise terminal service. Worse - if you book for a different ship on the same day as a Fred Olsen sailing, you'll be waiting at the wrong cruise terminal. And yes, the service (for Fred Olsen) from the cruise terminal is more expensive - some Fred Olsen passengers are aware of this & book from the coach station, taking a £5 taxi ride from terminal to coach station. ................................................................................ Book to the Nat Express terminus at Victoria coach station. Then it's a 15 minute taxi ride to Kings Cross or much cheaper & about the same time by taking a short walk from Victoria coach station to Victoria tube station & taking the tube (metro) to Kings Cross. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf JB :). sddsddean Posted August 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2013 If its a nice day and you dock at City Cruise terminal (berth 101), it is actually walkable in 10 minutes. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Herbert+Walker+Ave&daddr=50.8985849,-1.408328+to:50.9007095,-1.4096229+to:Harbour+Parade&hl=en&ll=50.901815,-1.409039&spn=0.014994,0.037723&sll=50.900611,-1.410069&sspn=0.007497,0.018861&geocode=FSiuCAMdM2zq_w%3BFZimCAMduILq_ymfZvANyHZ0SDHma_UrWdKnnA%3BFeWuCAMdqn3q_yk7MxEduHZ0SDG5X1K5xWOh3Q%3BFZjCCAMdEH_q_w&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=16&via=1,2&z=15 It won't let me do it on the map, but you can cut through the Holiday Inn car park and cut out the dog leg to the roundabout. onthelake Posted August 24, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Thank you for the information. We came in before on the QM2 but stayed a night in Southampton and took the train to Gatwick the next day. This time we are planning a few days in London and there will be 4 of us. We will travel directly to a London hotel still to be determined! Trying to find agreeable and cost effective solutions which please all is not an easy task!
