kruisey Posted August 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Today while transferring from one skytrain to the Canada line in Vancouver my home I saw Sapphire Princess berthed it looked liked a old friend to me she and her sister Diamond. Unfortunately they both will be lost to the West Coast this unique pair. Have travelled several times on both long trips. One for 35 days last year. Very sad for they are both lost to the Orient. karatemom2 Posted August 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2013 I do hope they aren't gone for good! The Diamond and Sapphire are my very favorite Princess ships! We are trying to squeeze in one last cruise on the Sapphire before she leaves in April if schedules permit. I will be sad to see them go so far away! You're right. We always think of ourselves as a kind of Vancouver south. :) I hope they return to our coast.
Cruisin' Chick Posted August 25, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 25, 2013 It's sad. The Crown is being sent over here, but probably without a retractable roof over one of its pools. Not the same.

Carolina Cruisr Posted August 25, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2013 We are booked on her for the Hawaii/Tahiti in October. Our original plans were to do this itinerary in 2014 but when it was rumored she was going elsewhere we moved it up to October 2013. Looking forward to sailing on her! DiRonT Posted August 25, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 25, 2013 The Sapphire is our favorite of the grand class ships and will definitely limit our Princess cruise choices now that she will be gone from the West coast.

tequilasunrise Posted August 25, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 25, 2013 These are my favorite as well. The design is unique and they are uncrowded. Maybe if we give Japan Grand we can have Sapphire back? ;)
skf Posted August 25, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 25, 2013 We had 22 glorious days in Diamond in 2009, Vancouver to Alaska to China. We love that ship. Have to agree that BC is a wonderful place. We spent 18 days there in 1981. Steve & Pete
jackieo Posted August 25, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 25, 2013 We sailed on the Diamond in January 2006. Sydney to Auckland. At every port of call small boats would accompany us out of the harbour area. It was a great sight. A cruise to remember on a beautiful ship. Ah what good memories ........ flamomo Posted August 25, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 25, 2013 A couple of year ago I had the distinct pleasure of sailing 3 times on the Sapphire .... 7 days to Alaska in the summer, and then 28 days r/t LA-HI-Samoa-Tahiti_LA in October/November, immediately followed by 7 days to the MR. A total of 42 days onboard made her one of my favorite ships, and will miss having her sailing out of UA ports.
san diego sue Posted August 25, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 25, 2013 Our 35 days on the Diamond were incredible. Sapphire being in Los Angeles, we had several opportunities to sail on her. Because the ship is leaving, we booked Hawaii and Mexico B2B on her for our proper farewell. Was looking at Sapphire's repositioning cruise in May. Looks like it got cancelled and probably will go in April instead. As most of you know these two ships were the only Princess ships not built in Italy. They were built in Nagasaki Japan. Kentchikan Posted August 25, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 25, 2013 It's interesting that they're sending those two to Asia and keeping the older ones here. It used to be just the opposite. They'd sail here and then when a newer ship came along the older ones were sent off. For a few years every ship we sailed on left the West Coast after we cruised on it. Odd feeling. Sunbury06 Posted August 25, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 25, 2013 We will be on the Sapphire Princess in October for the 28 day Hawaii Tahiti cruise. So glad we will have that opportunity since I have only heard good things about this ship! Sorry to hear she is moving! hpeabody Posted August 25, 2013 #22 Share Posted August 25, 2013 I sailed on the Diamond in Spring 2010 from Beijing to Bangkok and loved her. Later that year, In Oct I sailed on the Sapphire from my "home port" of Los Angeles/San Pedro and loved her. Last October (2012) I did a BVE with 2 friends on the Sapphire and we had a blast. I was even able to show them my cabin (I nicknamed "the cave") in the aft on Baja deck. They were in awe. When I saw that we were losing Sapphire  I decided I wanted to get in a cruise before she left us. I recently booked the Dec 15th 7 day Mexico sailing :)
