hotel recommendations in Fort Lauderdale

This is my first post on this board so if this is the wrong place to ask or there's already a thread on this that I missed, I apologize. We're looking forward to our first cruise in April on the Oasis and we have tons of questions. Just reading on this board has helped tremendously. We just booked the flights and now we need a hotel for one night. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in Fort Lauderdale that will be close to the airport or the port. I don't know if it's better to stay near the airport or the port or if they're so close together that it doesn't matter. Thanks for any info.

Hi there and welcome. This is the wrong place to post but that's OK. I will give you the link to the Florida board where there are copious amounts of hotel threads already running. You don't even have to post a new thread - feel free to read through what has already been posted, make your notes, look up the websites, read reviews on Tripadvisor, and make your decisions.

We also liked the Hyatt Pier 66. Ask for a Port View in a Tower Room. We actually booked a Marina Room, but were able to upgrade to the tower for $20 more per night. The Pelican Landing restaurant is a great place to have a nice dinner with a lovely atmosphere. reasonable prices. Click on the review in my signature for all the details.

We also vote for the Embassy suites.

Close to a Publix super market. We got our suntan lotion and other last minute stuff at...that we did not fly down with.

Also three of us took a cab for $ 20.00 instead of messing with their shuttle, and got to port when we wanted.

I just posted my review of the Lago Mar. It's the best hotel/resort we've stayed in yet in Fort Lauderdale. This was our 8th stay in Fort Lauderdale over the last 5 years.

Please do your homework/research no matter which hotel you choose. Myself nor my family did not feel the Embassy Suites was all that great (and I'm a Hilton Honors silver member). It needs refurbished badly. :o

Enjoy your trip! :p

I would not stay near the airport unless you can't find anything affordable elsewhere, only because there isn't anything interesting in the area. The areas near the airport are industrial/commercial/airport-oriented. If you are coming in late for just one night it doesn't matter. I would suggest staying downtown (Riverside Hotel) or near the port (6 hotels in SE 17th St area are all fine), or at the beach.

Silver Cloud, I would love to hear your thoughts on that hotel as well. So far, we've never stayed at anything that's topped the Lago Mar. Believe me, I was totally blown away 2 years ago by the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort but LM still tops that one.

I hope you have a SUPER time at the Alhambra!:)

The Embassy Suites on 17th street. Great hotel and great location.

Agree

Evening free cocktails, and munchies

Free un-beleivable breakfast

Take a cab to port for around $20 includes tip.

We stayed here in July and loved it.

Publix market within short walking distance where we picked up some travel items.
