Sending home fresh caught fish?

We are thinking of fishing in Ketchikan . I was wondering if there is a place in town that will prepare and ship it home for us. Has anyone done this or know of a place in town that will? Thanks! Kade

Are you planning a charter or fishing on the stream banks? If a charter, the charter operator will normally have an arrangement with the processor. IF you are fishing on your own, Ketchikan Fish is probably closest to the cruise docks.

It is NOT CHEAP for shipping so be prepared. Here is a very good chart from our favorite fish processor in Alaska. http://www.welovefish.com/seafood-processing.htm

Prices are almost always just about the same statewide. FedEx lumps almost all of Alaska under one tariff to the entire lower 48 for fish and game processing.

6 of my family went fishing with Ken of Northern Lights in July and caught 65 pounds of various salmon and 1 rock fish ( Ken kept this one). My mom wanted the fish shipped back home to Tennessee, half smoked and half frozen fillets. Ken had all the paperwork needed for processing and shipping on the boat and Mom gave him credit card number and what day she wanted Fed Ex to ship. It averaged out to about $7.50 per pound of dressed fish with processing and shipping. Each package was labeled as to the type of salmon. So worth it, the smoked is so firm and tasty.

Just a note about Northern Lights. My family loved Ken. We was great with the kids and taught them how to identify the salmon. They highly recommend him.

My family also went with Ken in August. He was wonderful with my teens, my parents and my husband. His boat only takes six, so I went shopping in Ketchikan during their charter. He picked us up right by our ship. Highly recommend him, book early!

Do you mind telling how much per person the fishing trip was? Also only one of us wants to fish so does he get a group together that will make up 6 ? Thanks so much.
