islegroove Posted August 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Just came back from the Radiance of the Seas and would have to say he is the most disappointing cruise director we've had. I know this is an Alaskan cruise and the demographics are a bit older, but his overall lack of energy was astounding. He also has the same schtick planned for the Love and Marriage game, including getting one man to say 'Trojan' for what his favourite condiment is (we know this because both of the men who said it for the two weeks were on, we had met and asked them). One of our dinner partners said Paul was on the tender with them and just tried to blend back into the scenery. We saw him on the ship several times over two weeks with nary a 'hi'. No one would accuse him of being gregarious, but you would at least expect him to be friendly. To me, it seemed like he's just marking time, doing the same thing he's done for years. By far, he's the least favourite cruise director we've ever had.
mommabean Posted August 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2013 That's the way it is with all CDs. People either love them or they don't. Paul is one of my favorites and always has been. There was one (who will remain un-named) who everyone loved and I felt just the opposite and though HE was unfriendly. He's no longer with the company. I also read really bad things about a female CD on Oasis. I went expecting the worst and wow, was I pleasantly surprised. I loved her. A lot. Everyone has their own tastes in what they expect from a CD and their staff. And it's not the same. But that's true with all people in life, isn't it? islegroove Posted August 26, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted August 26, 2013 very true, but you would expect a 'hello' from the CD when he's in the elevator with you or walking alongside you. I like Amy - she's being moved to the Radiance for Australia.
roboref Posted August 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2013 We loved Paul. Low energy, but very deadpan and perfect comedic timing. I also had a question for him while on shore and he jotted our cabin number down and later brought it by to us. We really liked and enjoyed Paul. Just shows how different people experience different perceptions.

I would expect a hello from anyone working on board - if I don't beat them to it. :) But I'd cut them some slack for that, too, because you never know what is on their mind at any particular moment.
