We are leaving in 2 days so would love some last minute advice on excursions. This is my 2nd crusie and my boyfriends first. I heard it's cheaper and can be more fun to book through independent companies. Any experience and reviews would be appreciated. I just surprised him with this early birthday gift today so we are excited!:D

There are endless things to do in Cozumel...

  • Go to Mr. Sanchos
  • Go to Paradise Beach
  • Go to Chankanaab Park
  • Swim with Dolphins...this usually requires pre-reservation
  • Shopping down town and in the port area
  • Take a tour around the island
  • Go to Fat Tuesday, Margaritaville, and Senor Frogs

I would check out the Ports of Call thread on here for some more ideas

We've twice done the Bar Hop. We're not huge drinkers, but were able to enjoy a side of the island that isn't always seen and is truly beautiful! I think it's about $50 a person now.

Another time we went to Money Bar and enjoyed snorkeling, massages, food & drinks! http://www.moneybarbeachclub.com/

My favorite spot is Paradise Beach. Cab ride is around $13 each way. Free admission, $2 beach chairs, $12 wristband for use of water toys (inflated things in the water to climb on and slide down--nice for kids but better suited for adults because some of them are huge and challenging). The wristband also allows you to use the water trampolines, kayaks, paddle boards, and rental of life jackets and snorkel equipment. If you don't get the wristband, they expect you to purchase around $10 worth of food/drinks. For me, there's too much fun to be had to waste time eating & drinking. Mr. Sanchos looks & sounds similar to Paradise Beach, but it sounds like Mr. Sanchos' water toys aren't quite as good or as many, and I've heard that you have to purchase their more expensive all-inclusive (food/drink) pass to get all the water toys. If that is true, Paradise Beach is the big winner for me.

Chankanaab Park is also nice. $10 cab ride each way, around a $20pp admission. Includes a beach, good snorkeling spot, sea lion shows, etc. They also do dolphin programs there for a lot of money. They have a policy that you must book through the ship (at an even higher cost) if you're with Carnival. That is, if you tell them you're with Carnival.;) Before this policy change, we did their Royal Dolphin Swim on our own, and it was awesome!!! Admission to the Park was included in the high price of the program.

Paradise Beach for pay-as-you-go, Mr. Sanchos for all-inclusive -- your call. Taxi fore to either will be the same - about $15-16+tip for up to 4 in a cab (so pair up with other cruisers and save $$ for more margaritas! :D).
