renee1222 Posted August 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2013 A family member booked a cruise for us through a travel website (not travel agent). You know, a site that claims to get the lowest airfare, hotels, etc. I think the price of the cruise has dropped $50pp and I was just wondering if anyone had experience getting a price drop through one of these sites or if there might be fine print with penalties. I always book directly with Royal and I really don't like not being "in charge" of the reservation. Just my type A personality, I suppose!

The only one who can tell you for sure is the agency you booked with. Try to find a contact email or phone number and ask them.
leaveitallbehind Posted August 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2013 The only way to know for sure if they will charge a change fee (or have other booking restrictions) would be to contact them and ask. Not sure all sites have the same policies.
PattyG12 Posted August 28, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2013 My TA works through a big company and doesn't charge me a fee for drops. Guess it depends.
renee1222 Posted August 28, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Hopefully she will be contacting them today. Also, after playing around on the RC site, I have discovered that the rate for the 1st and 2nd person is actually different if there are only 2 people in the room rather than 4. When I search for only 2 people the rate is $1549pp, but when I search for 4 people, the rate is $1449pp for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th are $349. I have never noticed this before. We will have either 3 or 4 people, so it is good news for us.
slk230red Posted August 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I always book directly with Royal and I really don't like not being "in charge" of the reservation. Just my type A personality, I suppose! I always book through my travel agent....never needed to be in charge of my past 65 cruises. While I was playing golf this past Sunday, my travel agent was able to get us a 1 category upgrade, B2 to B1, and a $600 price drop on our Allure cruise. I was thrilled with the original price....these prices are just too low! Never need to ask, it's just automatic with her since she monitors prices daily. grandgeezer Posted August 28, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I always book through an online TA. The price of my Oasis cruise dropped Monday. Since it was past the final payment date, I couldn't get a refund but I did get a two level upgrade. All it took was an e-mail.

Snooksi Posted August 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I booked through a big travel site and saved $573 on our Allure sailing last wknd and I wasn't charged a fee to get the savings. They were very helpful and the only negative was being on hold for 45 min while they changed/approved everything with RCCL. Since I saved so much, being on hold that long was well worth it!! Just call them.
tigstoy Posted August 28, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I would call and ask. The most they can tell you is the amount it would cost to make a change and you can politely say no thanks. That being said. We have a young couple traveling with us and it is their first cruise. They booked through a website that books travel and lets you compare (you get the idea). He needed to change his name to be correct (he used his shortened version not the one on his drivers license). Second, we wanted them change to MTD so they could link their reservation to ours. Third, we wanted them to change rooms to a better location if it didn't cost too much so they could better enjoy the trip. So, I got with them and had them call the number given on the confirmation documents. Took care of the first two and then asked what it would cost to change rooms. They went to check and came back and said 87 cents. We couldn't believe our ears and asked to repeat and confirm. After all said and done, she came back and said she made a mistake in calculations and we all looked at each other groaning until she said it actually is 7 cents cheaper. He then told her "Done! Change it!". I asked today if he received the new corrected invoice. He confirmed that the only price change was the added gratuities for MTD. PERFECT!!!! Moral of the story is -- You will not get a better deal if you don't ask if one is available.
