Norwiegan Traveler Posted August 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I have read through all of my documents and can't see where it says I can't bring my own soda or water onboard. So am I able to bring it on the Ost. HAL ship? Leaving soon!!
startwin Posted August 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Yes, currently you may take your own soda and water onboard.
Norwiegan Traveler Posted August 29, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Thanks, I didn't see it addressed in any of the documents, but a TA told me it would get confiscated. I was confused!! I am sure they don't have caffeine/sugar free pop!! Took some on NCL in 2011 and it was fine!!
KirkNC Posted August 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Actually you can get caffeine free diet coke but it is best to take your own.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2013 You can take as much soda onto the ship as you want -- even on port days. No Limit. Also you can take your own bottled water onto the ship - again -- no limit. But we find the water on the ship is much better than what comes out of our taps at home. CruiserBruce Posted August 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Agree. There is absolutely no reason to bring on more than one refillable bottle of water per person. The water on board is as pure, and tastes as good, as any bottled water you will find. It also is free, and doesn't come with a plastic waste issue. Palm Bay Cruise Couple Posted August 29, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Why not call HAL Ship Services with your question concerning bring water or soft drinks aboard. They are very helpful.
OVgirl Posted August 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2013 When you bring your own soda/pop on board, are you allowed to drink it in public places on the ship? I was under the impression it was for in cabin consumption only. Am I wrong?

Typhoon1 Posted August 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Bring as many cases as you like. Leave them with the porters, have them delivered to your cabin.

bar_20 Posted August 29, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I would bring something like a pint size drink bottle. The glasses for ice tea and lemonade on the Lido deck are tiny.
Shmoo here Posted August 29, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2013 That's my understanding also, and I believe it's written somewhere on HAL's website. The only thing I can find on the HAL website refers to alcoholic beverages brought onboard: Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board andin a public venue, they will be asked to return it to their stateroom. http://www.hollandamerica.com/assets/cruise-vacation-onboard/KBYG.pdf Although, in re-reading "If a guest is drinking a beverage carried onboard...." is a little vague. The whole statement is under the "ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES BROUGHT ON BOARD" heading, but only says "a beverage carried onboard". So, who knows?
Krejaton & Krew Posted August 30, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 30, 2013 I just took my Oosterdam cruise and called first to ensure that I could take sodas on board. They said yes. I took on 2 12-packs of Mountain Dew and even had the stewards empty of the liqueur from the cooler so I could use it for our Dew. We also took a can to the Lido buffet many times and no one said a word. Moral of this post: MOUNTAIN DEW IS AWESOME AND WELCOME ON HAL! :D

Krejaton & Krew Posted August 30, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Incredible. A minuscule drizzle in Juneau, clear and sunny all the rest of the time.
