Midnight 15 Minute Price Drop

Last night I was following another thread about price drops around MIDNIGHT and decided to check for our New Years cruise (most popular time and never expecting to see a drop). I have been checking daily since we booked 2 months ago and nothing till last night.

I saw that our fare had gone down $70 per person on our 8K extended balcony Verandah cabins (there are 6 of us so 3 cabins). I quickly took a screen shot and got on the phone with Carnival knowing full well that my PVP wasn't going to answer and I was just getting whoever got the short straw for night shift. As I was on the phone and having the fare adjusted, the rep said the fare was down $100 pp not the $70 that I had called for and she made the adjustment accordingly. I checked the website while on the phone and she was right, it had dropped another $30 while I was on the phone for a total of $100.

That call saved me $600 and took all of 10 minutes but the strange thing is, 15 minutes after this call, I checked the fare again and it was back up.

It was a 15 minute sale ! Lesson learned to check at weird hours. This price drop just paid for 2 ports excursions!!!!

Yes! Most of the price drops I found for my upcoming Breeze cruise were around 10pm - 3am. It became a habit of checking Fare Viewer late night/wee hours of the morning because a lot of times by the time 8-9am came around prices were back up. The same was true for my cruise in May on the Imagination.

They have what they consider a very sophisticated computer program to automatically adjust fares to max revenues.

Guessing you caught it just right.icon7.gif

I keep watching this fare for entertainment. 3am the 8K is $789 and by 6am it's $1249. I know they have some system but really crazy swings the last few days. Maybe they are fishing for suckers on a holiday weekend?

By the way I do really have a life. :D This has just become interesting to watch.
