Algebralovr Posted August 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2013 That has become industry standard. You may be able to upgrade to a nicer room at the current, better, rate.
Phxazzcruisers Posted August 31, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Once final payment has been made, it is very seldom, if ever, that you would receive a refund for the difference.
cruisingator2 Posted August 31, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Nope, no refunds or OBC after final payment date.
kelmac Posted August 31, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2013 this is the first time that even after final payment Celebrity has not given me the price difference between what I paid and the new price drop. Anyone help with suggestions? Yes, Celebrity stopped after final payment refunds about five years ago. They will however, allow you to upgrade to a better cabin. Good Luck! hedyc Posted August 31, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Just use the price diff to upgrade...we went from a 1B to AQ unfortunately there is not enough difference in cost for an upgrade. anything else I can do? booked directly with Celebrity. Andy Posted August 31, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2013 unfortunately there is not enough difference in cost for an upgrade. anything else I can do? booked directly with Celebrity. Hi Hedy, There's nothing else that can be done... for now. Keep watching for price drops. Should others occur, you may be able to upgrade to a higher category cabin. I hope this helps ! If it's only a small amount additional, you can pay the difference and upgrade. We played this game in June and ended up moving from a CAT 9 inside cabin, up to AquaClass for less than $80 per person. Good Luck! Kel:)
Iamthesea Posted August 31, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 31, 2013 unfortunately there is not enough difference in cost for an upgrade. anything else I can do? booked directly with Celebrity. Are you already in a Suite? That happened to me and there was no other Suite to upgrade to. The lower rate was over $1000 price difference for 2 persons from what we paid.:(
Vineyardfan Posted August 31, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Why would Celebrity lower the price for those who have already booked? What would be the rationale for that?

Dave85 Posted September 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Why would Celebrity lower the price for those who have already booked? What would be the rationale for that? Right, from a business perspective. This is exactly why they don't do it anymore. They're just trying to fill the ship. Personally, as someone who books standard balcony cabins, I'm just pleased that X will allow you to upgrade to a better cabin. I got a no cost upgrade from a 2B to AQ for my upcoming 12 night honeymoon cruise on SI after final payment. In this regard X is more generous than RCI who will typically not allow you to upgrade to a better room unless you're paying more money. It definitely pays to keep paying attention after final payment though. I got my upgrade to AQ this time, I'm sure at some point in the future I'll luck into a suite (even if I have to pay a little more to get it). C 2 C Posted September 1, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Prices have been coming down on our Constellation cruise but Celebrity won't allow us to upgrade to a higher category even if we pay the higher prices because we have the 1,2,3 perks attached. We can pay a higher fare but we have to give up our perks as well.

Karynanne Posted September 1, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 1, 2013 What do you mean? For $1 you can upgrade? You can upgrade FROM the category and faire you had originally booked, TO the higher category cabin, at it's prevailing listed rate. Sometimes it's just a couple of hundred dollars, or sometimes quite a bit more.

Keep trying - they kept telling me that too...then for some inexplicable reason last week an agent told me the AQ guarantee rate was a five star rate and allowed me the paid upgrade. I still don't know why or how that occurred. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

jackdiamond Posted September 1, 2013 #19 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I have always assumed that you could get the advantage of the price drop if it occurred before the date for final payment even if you made your payment before that date. Am I wrong?
greenline Posted September 1, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I made final payment to Carnival and then there was a price drop. They gave me a credit on my account.
cruisingator2 Posted September 1, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I made final payment to Carnival and then there was a price drop. They gave me a credit on my account. If you book the Early Saver rate on Carnival then you can get the credit but that fare also comes with stipulations like losing your deposit if you have to cancel or change your sail date. I'm not willing to do that.
SantaFeFan Posted September 1, 2013 #22 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I have always assumed that you could get the advantage of the price drop if it occurred before the date for final payment even if you made your payment before that date. Am I wrong? You are correct. If the price drop is BEFORE final payment, Celebrity will honor the price drop and adjust the final payment due. If AFTER final payment, they will not. I made final payment to Carnival and then there was a price drop. They gave me a credit on my account. The OP was asking about Celebrity's policy, so what Carnival does is completely irrelevant to this discussion.
jackdiamond Posted September 1, 2013 #23 Share Posted September 1, 2013 SantaFe, I assume that you mean if the price drop is before the date for final payment it will be honored irrespective as to the date of the pasenger's payment.
SantaFeFan Posted September 1, 2013 #24 Share Posted September 1, 2013 SantaFe, I assume that you mean if the price drop is before the date for final payment it will be honored irrespective as to the date of the pasenger's payment. If you have made payment well in advance of final payment (some people do this, but I don't understand why), you may not be allowed the lower price because the cruise line already has your money. I say "May not" because I have never paid before final payment so have no experience with this approach. However, if you have not yet made your final payment and a price drop occurs, Celebrity will give you the adjustment. I have never been told "No" when I have asked. With your experience, I am surprised you are asking for clarification on this detail.
Kartgv Posted September 2, 2013 #25 Share Posted September 2, 2013 If you pay prior to final payment DUE DATE for some reason, and the price drops prior to the DUE DATE, then you can get a refund. We paid early by about 10 days for the 1st leg of a B2B, and the price dropped about a week later. We reached our TA (on Thanksgiving weekend!) and with one phone call he got us a refund of about $1500.
