lovestocruisesue Posted September 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2013 I've read a few posts stating that jet skis were dangerous in Nassau. We are cruising to Nassau and CoCo Cay next June. Would that excursion be safer at CoCo Cay, or should I forget about it?
CruisinCrow Posted September 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2013 We did the jet ski excursion at Coco Cay and it was a blast. There's a link to my review in my signature (click on the review for Monarch of the Seas and go to post #37). There are few pictures as well. I would say that doing the Coco Cay excursion is a lot safer for a number of reasons. For one thing, I've read that the jet ski operators in Nassau are not regulated and that some people have gotten scammed out of the full amount of time they paid for. But also, jet skis are very powerful machines and most people who rent them don't know how to operate them properly. I live in Florida and just this past weekend, a local girl (15 years old) was hit and killed by a jet ski. This same weekend while we were out on our boat, a jet skier drove directly in front of our boat. We almost hit it. This is what happens when you put inexperienced drivers in busy waterways with swimmers and boats. With the Coco Cay tour, you will first get some instructions on driving and safety. Then you will have two guides, one in front and one behind to watch out for you. They make sure everyone keeps a safe distance from each other. If you're worried that you won't get to go fast, don't worry. We actually went faster than I wanted to. :)

jresn02 Posted September 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2013 well I went with my almost 7 year in old and we had a blast. 60 bucks for a 1/2 hour (plenty of time) and 80 for 1 hour. We actually got about 40 minutes. No hassle and no issue if you have ever rented one before. If you are novice with anything you should get lessons and coco cay may be a good idea, however the cost was way more and you had to be 10 which my son was not.
