Happy0810 Posted September 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2013 Since Grand Turk is relatively flat, we've thought about renting bicycles for a few hours and exploring the island. We've been to GT once before, but it was right after a bad hurricane so the island was in shambles then. We were the first ship allowed back after the hurricane. A couple of questions: Is it safe to bicycle around Grand Turk? We've done this in Key West and felt safe. I'm not sure about GT though. Is it possible to bicycle to the other side of the island where the lighthouse is?
Rare crewsweeper Posted September 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2013 I haven't heard of any personal safety issues in Grand Turk. The only issue with a bicycle would be the traffic between the cruise port and Cockburn town. But once you reach lighthouse road, the traffic is sparse. Golf carts venture up this road all the time. Their biggest traffic issue is the potholes and rough pavement. There are some small rolling hills along the road, but nothing even a single ger beach crusier couldn't handle. Shoulders aren't smooth either, so make sure you have good tires and the tire are either off-road style or flat free/resistant. Your only other concern would be the heat. So bring a water bottle. There is a refreshment stand at the lighthouse and there's a small grocery/gas station just past the John Glenn capsule.

Keith1010 Posted September 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2013 The challenges of bicycle riding there would not be different than many other places. It is doable and just have a map with you. It can be very humid so as recommended bring lots of water. Keith
