sailingnut Posted September 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2013 I took a guar cabin and it was suppose to be a BX, I see my cabin is#10908, is that a BX? Has anyone stayed in that cabin? Many thanks!:)
tempura Posted September 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2013 It's a BD... so you got a step up, according to the website. But I think BX just means "guaranteed balcony" anyway. :)
sailingnut Posted September 7, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted September 7, 2013 I found it and it is at the back of the ship and I am happy! I always sailed in the back of the ships and was very happy~~my fifth cruise!:)

But I think BX just means "guaranteed balcony" anyway. :) No..."BX" is a category of balcony cabins with actual cabins assigned. You don't get a "guaranteed balcony", you get a "guaranteed BX", "guaranteed BD", "guaranteed BC", etc. Remember, the guarantee applies to the category, not to the overall cabin type. European_CruiseGirl Posted September 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2013 The X always means guarantee so there really are no balcony cabins that would be BX category. Inside guarantees are IX, oceanview OX and minisuites MX. As already said the X just means guarantee. Guarantee cabins can be situated anywhere on the ship. Aft, middle, front, high, low. For example with BX you can get any of the balcony cabins that are on the ship. Or of course if lucky any minisuite or suite. ;)

That would be really strange. Nowhere on the NCL site are shown category X cabins on deck plans....
ferfoodle Posted September 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2013 That would be really strange. Nowhere on the NCL site are shown category X cabins on deck plans.... "X" is both a literal stateroom and the stateroom type guarantee. There are actual X rooms. On the Pearl, BX cabin #8018 and 8518; MX rooms #11136 and 11536; OX rooms #8050 and 8550; and IX rooms #4501 and 4503. On the Breakaway cabin #s 8110,8112, 8710 and 8712 are BX. I think that is enough examples - not going to look up anymore categories or ships... These X numbered rooms are all the "least desirable" area of the ship per cabin type. Notice only a small quantity of each - I am thinking that they intentionally take a couple of the lowest cabin category within a type to create a "guarantee" category for booking purposes (who knows or quite frankly, cares why - computer program might need physical room #s, etc). Anyway - you book a guarantee balcony room you will get assigned to the minimum BX room all the way up to a suite - but almost always somewhere in between. I've never heard of that many categories of guarantees. I'm fairly sure there's only a "balcony guarantee" category.

The attached photo is for the Norwegian Breakaway...look it up yourself. What categories are cabins 8110, 8112, and 8114?

The reason for the small quantity of the "X" cabins is that they are used for lead-in pricing. When you see "Balcony Cabins from $599" you know that the $599 cabins are the "X" cabins...the others will all be priced higher. Guarantees are only available once a category is full. You can be offered a "BC" guaratee (which would mean BC or above) OR a "BX" guarantee (which would mean a BX or above). The reason you see the "X" cabins offered as guarantees so often is because there are so few of them that the category sells out rather quickly. By offering the guarantee, they can continue advertising the cruise with the lead-in pricing.
