Just Returned from the 6/20/05 Millennium cruise to the Mediterrean....

And all I can say is WOW!

We had a wonderful time, can't think of anything serious to complain about. We had great weather, maybe a little on the hot and muggy side, but not a hint of rain. The food and service were great....though by day 10 I was hoping for just some "normal" restaurant food. :) Our cabin was perfect, and I loved Consierge Class, though I might not want to pay for it again. My spa treatments were very relaxing.

If anything I don't think I got to really enjoy the ship on this cruise. Too many ports and only 2 1/2 sea days, so exhaustion ruled. We missed most of the entertainment, preferring to relax with a drink on the Aft deck and listen to Pepe de Jose play the guitar before dressing for dinner or relaxing in the Thalassotherapy pool...and with an 8:45 pm late seating, by the time dinner ended at 11 pm, we were too tired to do much....especially with an 7 AM wake up call the next morning and an 8 AM tour to catch. Though we were very disappointed at the complete lack of comediens...we do love a good laugh at the end of a long day.

Europe was nothing short of amazing. People keep asking me which city was my favorite, and I can't decide, they were all great! Thanks to Cruise Critic every single port suggestion worked out as planned. We stayed at the Locanda Orseolo in Venice (perfect!!) and the Hotel Jazz in Barcelona (great hotel but apparently Spain just legalized Gay marriages and there was a HUGE rally going on all day and night less than a block from the hotel...I heard the PA System and music until about 3 am....and we needed to get up at 4 am to make a 7 am flight.) We used Spiros in Athens, Driver in Rome for all the Italy stops and Dream Tours in Villefranche....every one of them was exactly as we planned. We did Venice, Santorini, and Barcelona on our own....piece of cake. Even took a bump for some nice airline credits (should cover the airfare for our next two cruises!!), and got a free, unexpected day in Madrid. :)

Unfortunately, one of our suitcases didn't make it home with us, so I am hoping that shows up today. Some of my husbands clothes, some shoes, some gifts, a bunch of wine and lemoncello, and ALL of our electronics chargers were in that bag.....ipods, phones, Palms, etc. ugh!! :( At least it was at the end and not at the beginning of the cruise. We met several people missing luggage on the first days of the cruise....I would have freaked.

I plan a full review and posting my photographs, but it will take me a few days to get to all of that. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. I kept a copy of all the dailys and as much other information as I could remember to keep. I don't have specific menus and we didn't use the kids program this cruise, so no idea about that.

Speaking of kids, there were plenty of all ages and they were nearly perfect young ladies and gentlemen. Never saw anything I would call a situation or problem. I didn't even see any of them gathering in groups until the last sea day, and they were well behaved. I have no problem with young people making a little noise laughing and enjoying themselves. It made me miss my kids and grandbabies all the more, darn it!!

Speaking of grandbabies, our first granddaughter (we have 3 grandsons) was born while we were gone. She came a few days early, so we were a little disappointed we missed it, but thanks to the internet we had pictures within hours and we are very happy to be home and able to meet the little princess in person.

Well, that is all my foggy mind can think of right now. I never had a bit of jet lag going to Europe but wouldn't you know it, I couldn't sleep but a couple of hours last night after getting home at midnight. I'm going to be a little fried for a few days I think. :D

Thanks again for all the valuable information that you all freely give, it really made the difference on this cruise.

It was fun, we went and hung out there after dinner, enjoyed the music.....you can sleep anytime, but you can't be a part of history anytime!! :) It wasn't until after we left that I remembered that I mark all my luggage, including my purse, with rainbow colored ribbons, so I probably looked like I fit right in! :)

Ahhhh - my dream cruise. One day, especially if it is true they are going to reduce the single supplement.

Did you eat in the Olympic?

Eagerly awaiting your review.

Congrats again on the new baby! Nothing like a new baby in the family.

We got to meet Elizabeth tonight, and she's a doll....looks exactly like her aunt (our daughter) as a newborn. :)

Yes, we ate in the Olympic Restaurant one night. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent.

Hi Margie - we were on the boat with you, too, but I don't think we got to meet (we spent way too much time in the casino and watching karaoke, though we did enjoy pepe de jose over sushi each night so I'm sure we crossed paths somewhere!)

I agree about the utter lack of comedians - we opted against most of the shows (only went to Jamie Allen and the Pickpocket), and made a note of it on our eval. We had an amazing time, and are sad that, quite literally, the honeymoon is over!!!

As far as your electronics chargers, we went to Radio Shack before we left for our cruise and they have something called IGo (or YouGo? I think IGo) and it's one charger with interchangeable "heads" for each of your phones, gadgets, etc. - I think it was $30 for the charger, with one head of your choice included, then only something like $10 per head after that. It made traveling a breeze for us because a) there was only one cord to lug, and b) if we lost it, we have our "real" chargers at home!

If you have a Radio Shack nearby, give them a look!

Hey Margie ..

David and I will be in LV to see George Carlin at the stardust in August.

My question is this. is there a nice resturant that the locals go to that is not a tourist trap for a nice french dinner, someplace maybe with escargot? beef wellington.. Just thought I would ask you since ur profile says u know that area!

thanks

I love George Carlin!

I am not aware of a great local French restaurant, but I have heard wonderful things about a restaurant called Rosemary's.....you can check it out here.

I will ask around and see if anyone has a French restaurant that is outstanding, and if I hear of something I will let you know.

Enjoy your visit to Vegas!!

Can you tell me how to get in contact with Locando Orseolo in Venice? We are going next year and would like to stay there. Did you book directly with them?

Carol

I did book directly with the hotel. I used this email address:

info@locandaorseolo.com

jjssitters....we took a water taxi ($10 each) to St. Marks Square and walked to the hotel from there. We had a lot of bags and used one of the porters at the dock to take the luggage to the hotel.....that was very expensive, $60 euro....if we had known we would have handed the luggage ourselves. If you use a porter make sure you know the price beforehand, that was our mistake.....never dreamed it would be so expensive.

jenny....thanks for the information about the I Go from Radio Shack, I already ordered one! :)

Our missing bag findly found it's way home. My Venice artwork is a little bent, but I think the framer will be able to smooth it out. The bag certainly looked man-handled.....nothing broken and everything there, so we are happy.

Thanks for all the congrats about the baby.....she's a beauty.....don't you agree? OK, so maybe I am a little biased. :)

I can't wait for our Century cruise in November....I hear so many wonderful things about her, and can't wait to experience her myself!

I'm still adjusting and unwinding from the trip. I haven't slept well since returning.....jet lag in reverse coupled with returning straight to work. I am exhausted today (up all night delivering a baby) so I am hoping I will sleep well tonight and get back in sync. :)
