strawberryduck2000 Posted September 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2013 We will be in orlando in November and are thinking of doing a 4 day cruise from port Canaveral. Im looking for car rental, I'm in the UK is it best to pre book or is it as easy to book when I'm in florida. Any tips on getting from A to B and back gratefully received Thank Byron Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
welshrich Posted September 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Hi, pre book from the UK, it's less complicated due to insurances etc as the websites take into account we are not from the USA, I always use Budget, find them competitive, no surcharges for one way hire and you can choose to pay now or when you return the car. Travelling to Port canaveral is very easy, you can print off directions, download an app to your phone for satnav or the hire companies rent out satnavs.
villauk Posted September 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2013 It's very easy. We also pre-booked with Budget and drove both to Port Everglades to board Oasis and then back to Cape Canaveral to board En after staying in Orlando last month. Straight road from Orlando to Cape Canaveral, and Budget drop you off at the port after returning your car. We found Budget the cheapest after comparing various companies. You can also rent a car on disembarkation day and return it to MCO airport (ideal as you'll find most flights to the UK are scheduled at night). We visited a mall after disembarking, had some food and then made our way to the airport. Also, it was so much cheaper to hire for the four of us than it was to pay shuttle fares ;). Small point: ensure you carry lots of loose change for the tolls, or alternatively use the Sunpass machine they install in all their hire vehicles (it's on the windscreen and you have to pull the lever down to activate). Our friends used the Sunpass inadvertently as it had been left in the 'on' position (think it was an extra $2.50 per day for the convenience plus the toll charge). We just used coins at the tolls ;). villauk Posted September 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Approx price for the toils?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Anything from $0.50 to a couple of dollars. Most are just as you leave the main downtown area, round by the airport. We kept some loose change, but most will give you change at the booths. Are you considering Enchantment for a four day? Orlandocruiser Posted September 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Approx price for the toils?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Coming from Lake Buena Vista using the 417 ( fastest way, least traffic) to the 528 into the port will cost you approx. $3.00 on the 417 and $3.00 on 528. We have an electronic pass so these fees are approximate as I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the signage.:) If you have the electronic thing in your rental you can just stay on the main road and drive under the toll readers, saves time from having to go through the cash toll lines. ( To clarify there are two main toll plazas on the 417 and two on 528 each charging 1.50-1.75. If you should choose to take I-4 to 528 you will be on 528 longer and the tolls on the first stretch will be similar to those on the 417.)
Steph123 Posted September 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Make sure you do have plenty of change. We got caught with out enough at a toll booth without an attendant, and had to mail in a check for 75 cents. There is a expensive charge from rental car company if a toll is not paid.
