While I've never done the UBP, I have read (here) that if you get it, it has to be for everyone in that room. For one, for all.

Quote from NCLs site "A 15% gratuity plus any applicable taxes will be added to all package purchases. Packages must be purchased by all qualifying individuals residing in the stateroom or additional staterooms under the same method of payment for the entire length of the cruise. Packages may not be shared and are non-transferable and non-refundable. You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase any alcoholic package and to consume alcohol. See the terms of our guest alcohol policy. Other terms and conditions may apply."

I have been researching the drink packages a lot in the last few days....every call I have made and every call my travel agent has made, they have informed us that everyone in the room age 21 and older has to buy the exact same drink package PLUS any children in that same room has to buy the soft drink package.

The packages seem restrictive and confusing. I wonder just how popular they are.

So the beverage questions continue. Does NCL think we will just give up trying to figure what works best and buy the UBP for everyone in our party?

Do I bring my own wine, buy Corks/Caps or maybe the Ultimate Beverage Package?

I have been considering some sort of beverage package, but not now. I'll order soda, mixed drinks and wine when I wish and pay as I go. Maybe I would save some money buying a package, but with so much confusion I don't think it's worth it. Heck I'll be on vacation and if I spend a bit more or a bit less it doesn't matter. Why go on vacation and wonder who is getting better end of the deal? Actually we all know the answer to that question!

That's the kicker for us with the drink package. I could buy the package for me and have that be worth it for me, but my boyfriend doesn't drink at all. Therefore instead of getting $350 from me for the drink package for the trip, they're going to get more like $50 from me because I'll drink in ports if I have to pay as I go.

Having done the UBP twice now, once on Breakaway and once on Epic I have definitely saved money (and tried drinks/cocktails I wouldn't normally try) .

I can understand why everyone in the room has to buy the same package, it sucks for those who genuinely have a non drinker partner but how else could NCL police the mis-use.

I was told by NCL that if one person in the cabin has the cap and cork beverage program the other can not have the UBP, both parties in the cabin who are over 21 must have the same drink package. Also was told the bottle wine packages were discontinued as well.

I read that on cc last night. Today I rang NCL in UK and Miami. They could not put through a purchase of the wine package but she checked with a supervisor and told me I can purchase onboard in Barcelona. I am not convinced it will be available. How does one lug about 14 bottles of wine onboard? Ken

It does make sense that one person can't buy the UBP and the other person buy Corks and Caps.

If one person wants the UNP then everyone else has to buy the package. The Corks and Caps isn't the UBP. If they allowed the mix then it would be a way of people avoiding paying the full amount. It would open up the possibility of the person with the UBP getting other drinks for those in their room, which is the whole reason they give for everyone needing to purchase.

Craig, you've just been on the Epic haven't you? Did you notice whether they were selling the Viva Vino wine package. I got it on the Pearl last month but there are rumours that it isn't available now.

My last 4 cruises have been on HAL which allows unlimited wine brought aboard for in cabin consumption with out any corkage fee. You do pay a $18 corkage fee if you bring a bottle to any dinning venue. I bought a collapsible wheeled beverage cart with wheels and handle that holds a boxed case of wine. This works perfect for brining any beverages aboard and works great for storing the wine in my cabin.

I don't have the answer, but My guess is: you have to order 2 identical packages. I

kcwingwalker: just thought I would add this: apparently the drink packages are very popular and gaining in popularity all the time. I am not quite sure why you find them complicated except for the example the OP gave.
