FIRELT5 Posted September 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2013 The dawn will be delayed leaving Bermuda up until 0900 as conditions permit as per the Royal Dock Web Cam.
Chesneygirl Posted September 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Update: Line handlers have stood down for now because weather conditions are just too dangerous to move the ship. Norwegian Dawn's departure may be delayed until tomorrow morning at 9am local time. All plans subject to change as the weather situation develops. Stay tuned! NormanW Posted September 10, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 10, 2013 If I were on the Dawn I'd want to be sitting right there until the weather improved. A proper place for a ship is at sea. However with the complexities and hazards leaving the pier it's in the best interest in safety of vessel and all onboard to stay put. That said, a proper "hurricane party" would be no better served by Next Stage covering The Scorpions' "Rock You Like a Hurricane"! :D

expectGREATthings Posted September 11, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 11, 2013 I pray for a safe departure and better seas back to Boston. I also pray for all of the wonderful inhabitants of that fantastic island. One thing for sure all of the passengers will have a great story to tell. Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted September 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2013 It is 8:30PM and the wind is really slamming Bermuda right now. Norwegian Dawn is still sitting there. Frankly, I wouldn't want to be there right now. The web cam at portbermudawebcam is still working right now which is amazing. With the wind so hard, I hope Dawn's ropes stay in place. I wish everyone in Bermuda good luck and hope the storm passes fast and with no damage.

bakerintn Posted September 11, 2013 #15 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Since the storm track is North...the seas heading home will still probably be churned up by the winds that moved North.

Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted September 11, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Just checked the web cam again at 10:15PM. It is still storming. The waves are still splashing up on the docks and there are some much heavier gusts of spray blowing across the water. One January we were on Naviagator of the Seas docked at Cozumel and a winter storm blew in. The waves and winds were high. Our ship bounced up and down the entire day. It really was unsettling. You never got a rest from the constant rocking. The swimming pools splashed out of their sides and the crew put big nets over them so no one could try to swim, but it was too cold to swim anyway. I had not known before that that Cozumel can get really cold. Anyway, if it was that rough for us, I can just imagine what it must be like on Norwegian Dawn tonight because what they are enduring is much stronger than what we experienced. By the way, does anybody know where Breakaway is?

By the way, does anybody know where Breakaway is? The Dawn appears to be very firmly tied down. (I believe that was due to the scramble by the port crew that was occurring on the dock this afternoon). I know cameras can be deceiving, but she seems to be barely rocking at all. Way to go Bermuda!!!:D Now I just hope she can sail away safely tomorrow and the Breakaway doesn't have any problems coming in. ;) Our best wishes are with all of our fellow travelers!!! :)
CruisinMaterial Posted September 11, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Just checked the Norwegian Dawn on the Webcam and she's gone. The expected departure time was 9AM BDA time and it's 9:18AM now and she's gone. Hopefully they don't have too bad a ride back up the Eastern seaboard as they are now following the storm up here!
flowers44 Posted September 11, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Came back from Bermuda two years ago in an Atlantic Storm. Experienced 58 MPH winds and 28 foot waves on board the Gem. The storm lasted for a full 24 hours. It was not a good ride home. Did the Dawn in July. The seas coming home were like glass. We could see fish jumping and dolphins. Hang on tight Dawn travelers. Prayers are with you.

On the bridge tour there were dolphins jumping in front of the ship. :) I agree the Dawn travelers are in for a rocky ride today! :(
Tatka Posted September 11, 2013 #23 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Cruising to Bermuda is always a risk, as it coincides with hurricane season. Cruising to Bermuda in September is a Russian roullette. Good luck to Dawn passengers .
Barb Nahoumi Posted September 11, 2013 #24 Share Posted September 11, 2013 The Dawn left Bermuda before 9:00 am(their time) . Although the storm lessened somewhat, it still looked windy, rainy, and the seas were rough. Hopefully, some passengers may post while aboard. If not, we look forward to their stories after they arrive home.
dcollette Posted September 11, 2013 #25 Share Posted September 11, 2013 I'm happy to see that the Dawn made it safely through the night and is on her way back, although I hope she has a safe ride home, since they are basically following this storm up the coast. :( Breakaway is not looking like she's planning on docking today, and even the bermuda webcam is still looking quite a bit unsettled. Perhaps the Breakaway is spending an extra day at sea to wait out the storm before docking. Hope everyone is safe and sound. Usually the X summit is there along with Breakaway, and neither is there as of 920 EST.
