B2B on different lines?

Is this ever done?

We are looking at HAL to do a b2b next summer to Alaska, however we are not at all loyal to any line and love variety.

While we're fairly committed to HAL for the first leg, there are Princess and NCL ships going the other direction.

Is it possible to ride HAL one direction and then Princess the other?

Is this weird? Allowed?

Anyone done this?

No reason it couldn't be done. As long as you have enough time between cruises to get from one to the other.

I'm sure there are those who've done it.

Don't know why you think your idea is "wierd" or even unusual.

Every Saturday and Sunday there are whole platoons of passengers moving between the different ships in Mami and/or Ft Lauderdale.

But Alaska is a bit different story.

For example, HAL turns around in Seward while Princess does in Whittier.

So unless you find a private tour company able to pick you up at one port and drop you off at the other you may be looking at a full day of riding a bus to and from Anchorage.

Ah, good catch, thank you. We are looking into options in case there is a different location in Anchorage.

I thought it was 'weird', because I haven't seen it posted here. Even did a search before I posted and came up with nothing. Most people doing b2bs are on the same cruise line(which we did consider using HAL, but we love variety and don't feel past guest perks are enough to prevent us from trying other lines).

Due to schedules and what not, our only option 1 direction is HAL(which goes to Seward). However the other direction is Princess, NCL and Celebrity. We're traveling with others, and are split between NCL and Princess. Probably won't make a final decision until Christmas.

All the ships are new to us(we've never sailed the same ship twice!) and we've never had a bad cruise. So we're not too concerned about which order we take them in.

Many people have done this. Some do it on the same cruise line. Others do the first cruise on one cruise line and the second cruise on a different cruise line.

JMO -- I would not do it. Packing at the end of one cruise, moving to the second ship, having to go through security and check-in again and then unpack again. Not for me.

Sometimes you have no choice but to switch lines/ships in the USA because of the PVSA. We have had to that with a recent booking, but in Alaska it's not really a problem with the number of ships around. Royal Caribbean also operate a 7 day itinerary out of Seward to Vancouver every fortnight.

We've done it a couple of times. We thought the little bit of extra effort made for a much more enjoyable two week vacation (2 separate 7 day cruises) rather than one 14 day cruise. ANd maybe it's just coincidental regarding those that we chose, as it was less $$$$$ then taking one two week cruise.

I'd prefer to stay on one ship for 14 days, but if a longer itinerary were not available, and the two were ships I liked doing good itineraries, I leap for it. You are virtually guaranteed to be off the first ship by 11:00 AM at the outside, and can most likely board the second until 2:00 PM any way, it should be a snap at the same port - and probably a sure thing between Miami and Fort Lauderdale; other than those two, and two locations in New York, I don't think I'd try it at different ports..

We do it all the time! In Alaska, I would match HAL up with a Celebrity ship. That way, you will get the best mix of ports and both ships sail in and out of Seward. In addition, try to spend some time between the two ships in mainland Alaska. We did a week in the Kenai between our two cruises.

It would be easy to match the Oosterdam with the Millennium next summer.

Enjoy!

Ooohhh that sounds interesting. Care to tell more?

We did a BtoBtoB this summer, but not to Alaska. Our BtoBtoB was on the Infinity to the British Isles; the Infinity to the Norwegian Fjords; and the Queen Mary 2 a TA back to NYC. Great four week long cruisefest!

Enjoy!

  • 2 weeks later...

We are flying to Florida for a RC cruise which gets back on a Saturday. We will self assist for disembarkation and then fly to San Juan, PR. for a Carnival cruise that departs on Sunday. Then we will fly back to cold, snowy Chicago. We hope it works out as planned! We have done a B2B on the same ship with eastern and western carribean ports before.

Several years ago we did a B2B. First leg was Lisbon to Athens, then flew to Los Angeles and cruised to Alaska the next day. We have also done Venice into Black Sea, back to Venice, then take train to Rome for Transatlantic the next day.
