Too excited to not share. I just booked my second cruise ever - this time to Alaska! I didn't think I'd be able to afford Alaska but with the recent sale I think I'll be good with all of the expenses. I'm looking forward to the wildlife, nature and scenery. I'm also surprised to be excited to be going with Princess again. Last time I sailed on the Island to the Panama Canal, this time I'll be on the Coral. So happy :)

Our first cruise to Alaska was on the Coral in 2010. She is a great ship for an Alaskan cruise with many great public viewing areas. We spent almost an hour on the aft "secret" deck on Baja deck watching whales as we left Glacier Bay. You could go from port to starboard and back again depending upon where the action was. It wasn't continuous but there were three separate sightings during that time and some for 10-15 minutes at a time. YMMV but you have a good shot leaving Glacier Bay.

Well, welcome aboard. Now comes the fun part-learning as much as you can about Alaska before you come up.

Over on the Alaska board, http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

One of the Alaska cruising experts "BudgetQueen" has posted a list of things for Alaska planning from the June 2013 issue of Alaska magazine:

- Make your Dream list

- Ask friends for their faves

- Read up

- Ask the locals

- Know when to go

- Pursue your interests

- Find your accommodations

- Track down the best companies

- Know your geography

- Consider transportation

- Don't short your time spent in Alaska

- Pack smart

- Consider shoulder season

- Don't forget about winter

- Some of the best things are free

I hope this helps....

Have been on 3 Alaska Cruises and loved each one. Also Canada/New England is also very nice. Now doing Eastern Europe and next year Northern Europe. These are places that are on our Bucket List of places we read about growing up and now can go set foot on them and enjoy! Get on your board and have a Great Cruise!
