Dock Fishing Ketchikan September

I will be in Ketchikan next week and wanted to get some info on fishing from shore.

Where to go?

What lures to use?

What fish are around?

I think you can rent a rod on Creek Street and they should be able to provide lures and a licence. Should be some salmon around I would think.

You are going at one of the best times for pink salmon if you have a pack rod bring it to save money. The license is 20 dollars.The best place to fish is on the metal bridge the fish have to go through a small pass under the bridge You do not need bait, use a lead head pink or red with a large hook the fish are not feeding , jig it in there face and it makes them mad and they bite . I caught over 35 fish on that bridge using this method this week in 2001.Good luck ask if you have any more ques.

I just arrived back tonight, I was the only one fishing off the bridge if you call it fishing :)

The salmon is thick, as soon as your lure or jig hits the water you have a fish, I had great fun for half an hour till my rod broke due the weight of the last one! I brought my own gear, not heavy enough. The locals will rent you a gear for $50, or you can buy your own at Tongrass upperlevel just down the street

Sorry on a another post on this bridge I told people to walk the fish down to the water before trying to land them.I did that so I would not snap my rod I did slip and cut my arm (not bad) the rocks can be a little trickey. Glad it worked out for you.

Yeah climbing the rail and walking down the riprap didn't look fun, so I took a chance on the bridge and I lost a old pack rod. Not to unhappy with all the fun I had
