Safest and least expensive place to leave our van?

We will already be in Florida with our vehicle when we take our 20 day Caribbean cruise next year. When we get off the ship we will be driving home, so we don't need a hotel either pre or post cruise.

Where would be the safest yet least expensive place to leave our van?

You need to tell us which port (Miami, Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Port Canaveral).

I would look at prices for the Park and Go on Eller Drive at the Port

Several motels allow you to leave the car free as long as you spend the night. Have done this several times. Much less expensive than parking at the pier.

What's the daily rate for long term parking at the airport or nearby fenced lot? Then just take a short cab to the port.

Some hotels allow for up to 3 weeks of parking with one night stay. Surely would be a great option. Check on that. Or..if they offer two weeks, see what their daily rate is after that. Even if you weren't planning to stay overnight somewhere, run the numbers.

Your best, least expensive option might be to stay the night before the cruise at a hotel that offers a park and cruise package, even though you don't need the room overnight. Some include parking for up to 30 days.

sell the van when you get there

and buy another one when you return

Lol, that reminded me of this story:

A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blonde for using a $250,000 Rolls as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?" The blond replies......................"Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"

We are already leaving a place that we've paid for the entire month of February two days early to take this cruise. I don't relish the idea of forfeiting a third paid for night! BUT......

Are there any hotels that offer a "park and fly" option with a hotel stay that we could use after the cruise? That way we could leisurely disembark the last day, do whatever in Fort Lauderdale and then leave to drive home very early the day after. Is that feasible?

Can anyone recommend a good hotel/motel that would permit this plan??

You laugh, but I was about to suggest they get a title loan and leave their van for collateral.

Stop being cheap.

Park at the long term lot at the airport.

I am not sure he is trying to be cheap. asking a legit question in a forum designed to do so.

I will be staying at the Dania Cambria Suites that offers a park and cruise pkg.

They have comp shuttle to/from airport and to/from cruise terminal and free parking during your cruise. Rated #1 hotel on TripAdvisor for Dania Bch??

Safest and least expensive are two concepts that do not go together. You can have one or the other, but not both.

If it is safest, it won't be the least expensive.

Sorry :(

Very true, that's why I am trying to find a "happy medium" if possible! ;)

Check the individual hotels for post cruise nights. We have done that a few times flying out of Chicago. Have you checked the parksleepfly hotel sites?

I understand your concern about double paying for a room precruise. But just consider what your goal is which is saving money for the parking. Might be a wash. When all is said and done, as stated, if safety is the main issue, then yes you might pay more.

Just make sure your auto insurance is paid up on your car;)

Go over to tripadvisor.com and look/join their forum board. You can get more info there if you really want to spend time on this.

Thanks so much eandj for all your suggestions..... I don't know if you remember, but we were on the same New England/Canada HAL cruise last year! You ended up with an even better upgrade than me!

Yes, I remember your name! You asked the same questions I needed answers for ;) We enjoyed that cruise.

What dates are you looking at for your parking need?

We really liked it as well, especially the sail away out of NYC! The dates for this cruise are February 27 - March 19. Our very first Princess cruise! :)
