bazzaw Posted September 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2013 I have always thought that there was no cruising in the winter in the Med (out of season??) -- but now I can see that there is!! :o There are some good reasons to travel in Europe in winter -- but what about on cruiseships? I know that the Mediterranean area is not as cold/wet as other parts of Europe in (say January/February). So - has anybody here cruise in a European winter -- what is it like? What are the advantages /disadvantages?? Barry
Keith1010 Posted September 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Please keep in mind that the weather in the Med does vary by specific itinerary. In the winter some locations will be cold or at least on the very cool side and some areas will be quite rainy. I suggest you find the itineraries that interest you and then post them to ask for feedback. A good source to look up historical temperature is at this site. http://www.wunderground.com But keep in mind that we live in a time with shifts in weather from year to year so one year could be on the warmer/drier side and another week on the cooler/wetter side. paul929207 Posted September 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2013 We sailed around Italy the last week in November a couple of years ago. Genoa was chilly - about 60F. Malta and Corfu were about 75F. The rest were upper 60's
aquilegia Posted September 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I wouldn't consider cruising the Med in January or February. It is likely to be cold and/or wet and, even when it isn't, it's going to look pretty grey. The average temperature in Rome at that time of year won't rise above 12/13C (54/55F) and will fall to average 3/4C (38/39F). In a Greek island like Mykonos, a popular cruise stop, average temperatures will be between 11C (52F) highs and 8C (45F) lows. To my mind, this is no sort of weather to enjoy the Med.
