Jmeyers Posted September 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Going on Allure in December. We plan on eating at Chops one night and want to do one more specialty dining. Should we try Giovanni's or do Chops both nights??:::
oneputt18 Posted September 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2013 We love Giovanni's for both lunch and dinner. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free
Pebbles468 Posted September 13, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2013 It's a personal choice really ... You could eat at one and love it so much, you want to go back for the same meal again. On the other hand, you could want to try both so you have a variety .... either are acceptable. You can make one or both reservations on board and decide during your vacation ... I'm sure they can fit you in.
graf103 Posted September 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I'll put my 2 cents in... Go to Samba Grill... It's awesome!
BND Posted September 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2013 We're going on Allure in Nov and the only specialty we plan to do is Samba's. We have friends who have been onboard and it was their overwhelming favorite. We've done Chops on other ships a couple of times and it's okay, but Samba's sounds so much better. Rare aubreyc1988 Posted September 13, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2013 we actually went to giovannis and chops in the same day - dont recommend it! Its just too much food! We had a reservation for chops and just did giovannis for lunch on a whim. Chops was well worth the extra money, Giovannis was ok!
Artemis Posted September 13, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2013 We were on Allure a couple of weeks ago and ended up eating at Chops twice--we thought they nailed it both times! Giovanni's was perfectly fine and delicious, but we didn't think it was any more special than our day-in, day-out favorite Italian restaurant back home (although we had a terrific server there!). I'm with the folks recommending Samba--the ambiance was way better than I imagined in the day (when it is the complimentary Solarium bistro for healthy and yummy breakfast and lunch), and the food was tasty and plentiful. You do have to serve yourself at the salad/antipasti bar, so it is a bit more casual than the others. The additional charge is $20--we felt it was a very good value, and because it's unique, a better $20 spent on a meal than Giovanni's. In our opinion! We gave a wow card to the manager of that dining venue--she was on top of everything and will make sure your experience meets your expectations (day and night). I'll just add that the other experience I'd recommend is Chef's Table if you like the sort of thing or always wanted to try it. We loved it and thought it was worth every penny of the splurge ($85pp for five courses and wine pairings). I wrote a detailed review about Chef's Table (and did a compare/contrast with 150 Central Park) here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1908540 We were impressed with Allure in so many ways. I wish you a great week!
Erik101 Posted September 13, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I went to both Chops and Giovanni's on 2 separate nights. It was ok. Honestly I've had better steak and Italian on land. You might enjoy it though but I would suggest not doing both on the same day/night.
oneputt18 Posted September 13, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I guess we caught Sambas on a bad night, all the meat was overcooked. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free
BND Posted September 13, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I guess we caught Sambas on a bad night, all the meat was overcooked. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free Some people prefer it well done. I can't eat medium rare or even medium, prefer medium well but I know a few people who will only eat well done. So, overcooked isn't an issue for everyone. But, I thought like most Brazilian steakhouses they asked how you like it cooked.
Gonzo70 Posted September 13, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I guess we caught Sambas on a bad night, all the meat was overcooked. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free Me too; everything was medium well to well done; dry and tasteless. I tried all the specialties on Allure and Samba had the worst food and worst service. My personal favorites were 150 Central Park (did that twice we enjoyed it so much) and the Chef's Table followed by Vintages.
1ParticularHbr Posted September 13, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Same here. Samba Grill was the only one we would NOT do again. 150 Park was wonderful - a truly special evening, Chops was good - as always (and you never go away hungry) Giovanni's was amazing and had wonderful service. We could have made a meal from the tapas offerings at Vintages and on a future cruise, would certainly do that.
