New terminal at Hong Kong and access to Star Ferry/Nathan Road

Hi folks

I am after some information on our forthcoming visit to Hong Kong on the “Diamond Princess” in October please. Although our UK brochure showed us as berthing at sea we are in fact docking at the new Kai Tak terminal which is on the site of the old airport.

I understand (and can see from a map) that it is not as convenient for the Star Ferry pier and also the big shopping area in Nathan Road and indeed is some way from there.

We are on a 5 hour tour that day which finishes at 2.30 back at the Terminal. Our plan was then to quickly go on the Star Ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island and straight back and then do some shopping in Nathan Road. That would all have been easy had the ship berthed in the old Terminal or even at sea.

However, the new Terminal is a good bit further away and with, at present, poor public transport links. Does anyone have any more accurate knowledge of this or know whether Princess will provide shuttles from the Terminal to the Star Ferry/Nathan Road area (I believe there is very little in the immediate vicinity of the new Terminal).

Thanks for any help.

Peter and Beverley
