CruisersfromMD Posted September 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2013 MY DH and I will be sailing on the Grandeur in December. We depart the Port of Baltimore at 4 PM. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to get to and cross under the Bay Bridge?
Carnival_Brides Posted September 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2013 It takes about 75-90 minutes to get to the Bay Bridge outside Annapolis (depending on conditions) and it passes under fairly quickly in a just a few minutes.
S&Slovecruises Posted September 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2013 MY DH and I will be sailing on the Grandeur in December. We depart the Port of Baltimore at 4 PM. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to get to and cross under the Bay Bridge? We were on the Grandeur in May and August this year. Both times it was 6pm when we were going under - 2 hours.
CruisersfromMD Posted September 16, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted September 16, 2013 Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, the sun sets early in DEC it will be dark, but I guess we will see the lights etc. We have an aft balcony so I think we will stand on our balcony as we sail under - especially since we have a late dinner. Pumbaamd Posted September 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2013 We had aft JS 8088 on Grandeur for the 2006 repo from Baltimore to NOLA. We watched from our balcony as we sailed under the Bay Bridge. We soon realized that we missed the entire approach to the Bridge, cutting the whole experience in half. Get off your balcony, go up on deck and enjoy the entire sailing under the Bay Bridge!!! Rick and Deidra
Pumbaamd Posted September 16, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2013 And if you can stay up until almost midnight, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel is a whole new experience!!! Vehicles seem to disappear in to the sea front of you as you approach the tunnel. Again, R&D

Vehicles seem to disappear in to the sea front of you as you approach the tunnel. Again, R&D I agree with this. It was kind of eerie to watch the lights disappear into the darkness. Quite a different experience.
CruisersfromMD Posted September 17, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted September 17, 2013 I forgot about the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel. Yes, I bet that is an eerie experience. We should be up at midnight. Thanks for the pointer!

If I remember correctly it was around 10:30 PM the last night.
bmore cruiser Posted September 17, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2013 Going under the bridges is a great experience. I agree that it is better to see up on deck instead of on your balcony. The Bay Bridge Tunnel is probably the neatest of the three. It is so neat to watch the cars just disappear. wow that sounds weird lol. But in the dark it is like they just drive in and out of the water, really cool

Carnival_Brides Posted September 17, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 17, 2013 I had an aft balcony on the Pride and going over the tunnel was one of the prettiest sites. I had no idea it was coming since I was directly on the back of the ship, but the panorama of the cars coming and going was haunting and stunning. I love leaving from ports with bridges because it's so cool to see from the water. I wish Carnival and RCI were able to send ships up the C&D Canal like they (cruise lines) used to. spookwife Posted September 17, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 17, 2013 be up on deck to watch how close you get at the Key Bridge. In fact, the Captain will almost certainly get on the Horn and reassure passengers that despite the appearance the mast is in no danger of being snapped off. and don't forget the view of Ft McHenry from the water side heck, USNS COMFORT may be in town and visible. I fully intend to be up on deck Thursday afternoon.....
