I booked the Pride for 12/1 out of Baltimore. I originally booked an 8D balcony but have switched to an 8K balcony for almost the same price. When I look at the deck plan for my cabin, it shows the cabin sleeps 2 people. Yet some cabins that are also 8K sleep 3 or 4 people. They look the same size as mine on the deck plan. Some have a little black box on the cabin on the deck plan, and I don't know what that means. Why do some 8K's sleep 2 and some sleep 3 or even 4 yet look to be the same size? What does the black box mean?

they are the same size.

some cabins have 1) a bed that comes out of the ceiling, and/or 2) the sofa can be made up into a bed. this would increase the occupancy to 4.

the black box means the room sleeps 4. the star means the room sleeps 3.

they are the same size, it's just a difference of how they are made up to achieve the target occupancy.
