Joie Posted September 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2013 We are booked for March with a casino rate special we rec'd. We have always booked ES and watched and waited for credits when it went down. Wondering if anyone that has booked casino rates ever changed theirs to ES or found a better deal afterwards ? lilmizz Posted September 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2013 We are booked for January 18th and got a "Casino Rate" It was about 60 off a room per person.
disfan13 Posted September 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2013 Check your casino rates - if the rate drops prior to final payment - you are entitled top that drop. I have a casino rate for my next cruise - no other rate came close.

BigRed93 Posted September 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2013 My casino rate was free inside. And free is a pretty darn good rate! ;) Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Joie Posted September 17, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted September 17, 2013 So then I am assuming that Casino rate is always lower than ES rate ???????? Right now the SALE going on is $10 cheaper than my casino rate is why I was asking. I wouldn't mess with $10, but if it goes down a lot then I would want to look into it. timhoke Posted September 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2013 It really depends on the cruise. The casino rate is usually the cheapest but sometimes you can do better. Like Bibbysnow, our next cruise on the Valor is freebie lido balcony. ( I kept telling my wife that it's good to play in the casino, now maybe she will believe me)
westcruzer Posted September 18, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2013 My casino rate was free inside. Me too! I don't think you can get much better than free. However if I wanted other than an inside it wasn't super special.

Would you lose the casino cash if you switch to a cheaper fare code?

If there is a lower price than the casino rate that you paid, call Carnival and you can get the cheaper rate if you aren't past the final payment due date. Ten dollars is $10. I've got 2 casino rate cruises booked right now and have been watching prices, but so far nothing has come close to the rate I paid.

Would you lose the casino cash if you switch to a cheaper fare code? You would not lose the casino cash if you don't book under a casino fare. Just take your casino cash coupon on board with you and claim the cash. I have claimed casino cash without being booked under a casino rate. crystalbeachcruisers Posted September 18, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Yes, for our cruise next month we originally booked casino rate. The rates dropped twice for a total of around $50 per person. We took the cheaper rates, but my PVP said to bring the casino cash voucher on board otherwise they won't see my name on the list. You can combine early saver with casino rate and stay protected, but we didn't. Price drop was before final payment.

adcruise Posted September 18, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2013 I booked a cruise under a casino rate and just paid the down payment. Before my final payment was due (and I was still eligible for a full refund), a new casino promotional rate was offered that was lower. I called Carnival and they adjusted the reservation to the lower rate. I then made my final payment. Had they not lowered the rate I would have just canceled the reservation (since I was still entitled to a full refund) and rebooked the cruise at the lower rate. cruisinparamedic Posted September 22, 2013 #18 Share Posted September 22, 2013 Always book ES - if you're eligible for the casino rate and it is a lower fare, you get the casino rate and still be ES in case of any other price drops! My fiancé and I did this on our last cruise. Booked ES, price drops, etc, then our PVP told us that my fiancé had the casino rate, so dropped again, but then better sales came along... In the future if you see a casino rate you love. Book ES and then price match to the casino rate. That way you get the best of both worlds. We have done this many times. surfone Posted September 22, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 22, 2013 I never heard of a casino rate. We gamble but have never been offered a casino rate. But, we never sailed Carnival either. We are in December though. Is this casino rate based on earlier sailings and your casino play?
cosaraquis1 Posted September 22, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 22, 2013 I received a free inside casino rate but I could upgrade to oceanview for $50.00 per person which I did.
snownyet Posted September 23, 2013 #22 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Without trying to be nosey, how much do you need to spend to be eligible for casino rates?
cosaraquis1 Posted September 23, 2013 #23 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Honestly don't know, I do play the $5.00 Wheel of Fortune machines in the high roller area. Was sent a card in the mail informing me I was entitled to a free cruise, had to go on a Sunday to a free brunch to obtain all the information. Was free for an inside cabin all we had to pay was the taxes for a seven night cruise which amounted to about $100 per person. I inquired about upgrading to an oceanview was told it would be $50.00 per person extra which I did. Hope this helps.
timhoke Posted September 23, 2013 #24 Share Posted September 23, 2013 For me I usually play the slots $2-$4 per pull. I plan to be able to drop $500 or so in casino if I am not winning at all. So not what I would call a high roller but I do drop a couple of bucks there. They sent me a letter saying I had free cruise, I thought is was B.S. or like corsaraquis1 an inside room at best. When I called the answer was where do you want to go? Said I don't know where can I go? Anywhere you want as along as there is a room available under this promotion. They were all set to give me a balcony on 12 day European cruise, but the airfare was just too much, so we picked the So. Caribbean on the Valor out of San Juan. From what I can gather there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to their casino promotions, but I am not complaining we are heading to San Juan in just over a month.
