jchamps Posted September 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Hi! My husband and I have never cruised before. We want to try it by taking a 4 night Bahamas cruise leaving 30th June next year. I think I'm decided on RC Majesty of the seas based on service reviews and also their private island seems better than NCL's. However, I would choose NCL if the price was much lower. My questions are: How do I pick a cabin? I want value for money and probably want best cabin for cheapest price. I want a quiet location, but easy access to facilities. Is it really worth having a better cabin grade if we're only going to sleep in it? Should I book now? It seems that prices get lower and lower nearer the time of cruising and the 4 night midweek cruises always seem available. However, I've also heard about price drop matching, but mostly for US residents. I don't want to miss out! Any advice welcome!

Don't worry about the obstructed view it's not a problem. I would also consider Enchantment of the seas sailing from Port Canaveral(use MCO airport) as it is a much newer RCI ship and has a lot of bells & whistles. 1992cruiser Posted September 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2013 I would book as late as you can for that ship. The summer months do get busy, but The Majesty seems to always have really low rates the closer you get to your sailing date. Lately, I've seen it as low as $129 in Aug and Sep (wasn't looking in June). Unfortantely, you just never know---a large group could book for that week and throw the prices off. You often can find an outside cabin for the same price as an inside, although it will probably be on deck 3. No balconies unless you spring for a suite. The rates do get lower the closer you get to the sailing (a lot of times, not always), however once you get that close, chances are the cabin you want will be gone. June will probably book up pretty quickly. I've sailed on Majesty a ton of times - I would recommend either the Oceanview (a window)cabins on Deck 9, or an Oceanview on Deck 4 close to the elevators. Those are my 2 favorite decks. I personally would not choose anything lower than Deck 4, which is the main deck. Let me know if you have any more specific questions - Majesty usually sells out, so I'd grab what you want as soon as you see a decent price. Majesty is a great ship, you've made a good choice. jchamps Posted September 18, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Thanks for comments. Sounds like this is the right ship for us. It seems we should opt for he ocean view rooms. I'm guessing these are better located and also bigger. Still unsure on when to book. Prices now seem very high for just a few nights cruise. I'm tracking on icruise price tracker and hoping prices might drop. Right now it looks like I can have an cabin I want, so I think I have time to wait for a better deal. Any views on price drop matching?

Any views on price drop matching? Not sure about Royal UK, but Royal in the US does not match prices. US travel agents are supposed to be selling at the same prices as Royal's website. You might find a TA that has some group space obtained at lower prices.
jt1120 Posted September 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Just wait till you get closer to your projected cruise dates. I'd book perhaps 2-3 months out. I've seen some incredible fairs for September, mainly because the kids are back in school and it's the height of hurricane season. Some TA's offer price matching, or they might offer you shipboard credit if the price drops. I'd ask around to some of the different cruise TA's (VTG, online, C's only) to see what they will offer. On the Majesty, you really can't go wrong with cabin location. Just keep in mind that the cabins are a little more snug than on other cruise ships. They'll put the two single beds together and one of you will be sleeping against the wall. It's a minor detail, but I just wanted to make sure you were aware. Also, since the ship is smaller, it doesn't have as many bells and whistles. As someone else pointed out, you might think about the Enchantment instead. Still, we've sailed the Majesty four times and love her for quick weekend getaways. Enjoy!
